Went on Dec. 27 at around 3:25 at the recommendation of my brother who is a regular and takes many clients to eat there. Our first choice was Jose Enrique but it was closed as they don't open until 6:00. El Pescador is very small inside with only 3 sidewalk tables. We were told to go inside and put our name on a list for a table. The owner took our name and told us that it would be 45 minutes. We asked to use the restroom and were told that they were out of service but didn't suggest where we could go! Because the restaurant was very crowded with no place to stand or sit inside and we were very tired from a day of walking in Old San Juan we asked the owner for a recommendation for a place to have a good mojito with a restroom while we waited. She was unwilling to tell us where to go...implying that they were the only ones who made "good" ones. On the way out we asked if we could have a sidewalk table. We were told that we had to give our name to Nestor. We did and he told us that the wait would be 1 hr. He put our name on the list for a sidewalk table. It was 3:25. We then went to find a place to have something to drink with a restroom. We returned to El Pescador at 4:00, thinking that we still have to wait 25 minutes for a table but wanted to be sure not to miss it. As we arrived we were told that they had already called us and offered no other alternative. We were completely ignored by Nestor who continued to take care of other customers as we just stood outside the restaurant where he could see us. He never acknowledged us again! We went inside to speak with the owner but she was no help either. I politely asked how much would the wait be for another table and she would not give us a straight answer. When I insisted she rudely said "whenever a table for two opens you can have it". They were unapologetic and their
demeanor was uncaring and very rude. We are seasoned travelers and love good food and are willing to pay for it, however no restaurant or food is worth the experience we had yesterday. In my opinion, their hospitality management skills are lacking. It seemed to me that they catered to their "regulars". I will go again with my brother who is one of their "regulars" and see what kind of welcoming I receive! But just for that reason! They are plenty of other great choices in San Juan! We went to Buronia instead! Excellent mojito and good food! The service was great!

My husband and I visited Tasca el Pescador during La Placita's 100th anniversary. We arrived fairly early in the day and immediately secured a prime table outside facing the revelry. We ordered an appetizer my mother used to prepare for me as a child, pimientos rellenos - piquillo peppers stuffed with fish. It was decent, but ain't nobody can compete with my mama - sorry! After leisurely perusing the menu and sipping cocktails, our waiter came over to help us decide on a main course. He never rushed us, gave us his honest recommendations (not necessarily the priciest items), and was refreshingly straightforward. We settled on a classic, paella de mariscos and were thrilled with the portions and quality of the seafood. Perfectly cooked shrimp, moist and flavorful rice. We were so engrossed in our meal that we didn't notice the line forming at the door of the restaurant. What followed pushed out enjoyment factor into the stratosphere of happy. We felt guilty, asked Nestor to cancel our last drink order, and bring us the bill. He said no! Told us to enjoy our drinks, and not to hurry. We relaxed, watched street performers on stilts, dancing in the streets, and made friends with the people at the table next to us. It made for a truly memorable experience. Thank you Nestor!

We frequently visit El Pescador on Saturday's for lunch. The fried calamari is great as appetizer. The fish is fresh and brought in daily. They have a great selection of whole snapper, island caught lobster, and various fish fillets (tuna, salmon, cod, halibut, mahi mahi, swirdfish). The whole fried snapper is always a safe bet. The whole grilled lobster is to die for, cooked to perfection. They always have fresh aguacate salad, tostones, aranitas. Of course they make paellas, rice with squid ink, and octopus or seafood salad among other selections. If you like seafood, you would not be disappointed. The prices are very reasonable. The place is small and they dont make reservations so go early.

El pescador is one of the few places in San Juan where you can get fresh seafood. When you enter the restaurant there is a counter with the fish of the day and you pick the one you want. The place get crowded specially Friday and Saturday but the rest of the week is fairly easy to get a table for 2. The menu is mostly spanish dishes especially good is the black rice (squid ink)
