My girlfriends and I stayed here for 2 nights for our girlfriends' getaway. The only thing I regret is that we didn't stay here longer. The staff were amazing! The hotel was absolutely adorable and just so comfortable. The Hacienda has so much character and it feels like a home and not a hotel.

Room- We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite. It was really spacious and comfy. The beds were comfy and the a/c worked great! There were beach towels and a cooler in the room for guest to use for free.

The View-One word-BREATHTAKING!!

Breakfast-This is included w/ your stay and it is amazingly good!

Honor System- There is all kinds of goodies(food, drinks, sun screen lotion, mosquito repellent;etc) that you can take and you just have to put your name in the book. You can pay for everything at the end of your stay.

The property has a pool which we didn't have time to use b/c we were beach hopping but it was pretty. My friend got to enjoy some time in the hammock. There is also a library and computer room which I thought was great. I love reading so anyplace w/ a library earns bonus points in my book.

The dog- Zack is the hotel dogs and he is so cute. He took us on a tour of the property when we first got there. I really enjoyed having Zack around!

I would definitely stay here if I visit Vieques again. I promise you that you will not be disappointed with the Hacienda Tamarindo. I travel quite a bit and I must say this is now one of my favorite hotels! It's not luxurious but it's a perfect island home.

Tito Ramos, November 2012
Founder and President of Encanto Tours & Photo Services Inc.
With the intention of making sure I identified the best lodging, transportation services, Bio Bay and restaurants I visited Vieques Incognito with a child hood friend. We were so impressed witth the experience in Hacienda Tamarindo that decided to extend the stay for an extra night. Tania helped with the check in, she gave us a thorough tour of he property and provided excellent info on the best restaurants and beaches to visit. Kudos to Linda and her excellent taste in the decoration. The rooms are handicap ready which was important since I am still recuperating from a fractured toe. Burr and Sacks (the Sheep Dog) shared some time with us at the pool, which by he way, has a spectacular view of the ocean. The library has an honor bar well equipped with spirits and a computer. They also have beach chairs and lunch boxes which is super convenient for the undeveloped beaches of Vieques. Rosa made sure our breakfast (included in the rate) was a full one. The scrambled eggs and french toast was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the fresh Tamarindo juice. Hacienda Tamarindo is definitely the best place for an unforgettable lodging experience in Vieques.

Owners and staff were really helpful and genuinely wanted us to get the most out of our visit. The views from the Carribean room and pool were stunning, the breakfast was decent, the rooms were clean and nice, but it is the personal attention to detail throughout the whole hotel and the genuine hospitality and professionalism of the owners and staff that really makes the difference. It's not a big hotel and you can see the personal touches in how they've decorated the place absolutely everywhere and every bit of advice they gave us helped make our stay better. The only possible issue is that it's a 15min walk into town, very hot during the day, dangerous at night due to having to walk on the road and not many street lights, but it's highly recommended that you hire a car anyway so really no problem for most. Some examples of their hospitality: They didn't have anyone taking over the room straight away, so gave us a late checkout at no charge so we could enjoy the pool which we hadn't used yet. And it was election day when we left, so most shops were closed. We'd sorted out our account, but they gave us a bag of chips and a drink to take with us just in case we couldn't get snacks for the ferry ride. Just really nice people. Stay there!

Must stay for a classy island low key feel.
Service and staff are extra ordinary.lot of free gear and stuff for use. Right beside island adventures, bio by tour. We should have stayed longer .only stayed for a night.
Ocean view, nice pool, nice breakfast, walk to private beach, hammocks, cute lobby and library.

So, this review is a little biased because we stayed at Hacienda Tamarino (HT) on the back end of our Caribbean vacation right after the AWESOME stay at Beau Rive on the island of Dominica. So, naturally, everything about this hotel was compared to our other recent stay. But I'll try to stay objective!

Pros:
HT's location just outside of Esperanza is quite a convenient jumping-off point to get to the rest of the small island - everything is within about a 20-minute drive. We did the car-rental option through the hotel at Maritza Car Rental (everyone at Maritza was fantastic - professional and courteous) and it's highly recommended to have a vehicle on the island. Driving is extremely easy and the roads are generally well paved. But watch out for horses.

The common areas of HT are VERY well maintained and charmingly decorated. The honor bar is very convenient, the library is nice, and the views are amazing.

The included breakfasts are solid: typical American-style, done well. And the kitchen is very flexible; I got the impression that if they have the ingredients, they'll make it for you! The packed-lunch option, while handy for the beach, was mediocre. We ordered a packed lunch for the first day on the beach, but soon found out there were lots of easy lunch places all over the island that were better options.

Probably our favorite part about staying at HT, especially the last couple days, was the beautiful pool area. The groundskeeper, who we saw frequently, clearly has a lot of pride in his workmanship that is evident. The landscaping was perfect, the pool was clean and clear, and the views from the pool area were great, especially around sunset. We almost enjoyed lounging around the pool more than the beaches!

Cons:
While the common areas were very nice and antique-y, the rooms (at least ours) is a little bit dated and over-decorated. Not a show-stopper, but it kind of takes away from the overall feel of the hotel.

A final thought:
Our interaction with the "staff" at the hotel (Ivan and the girls at the front desk) was very positive and they were extremely friendly. Linda and Burr are interesting; not "bad", just interesting. It's kind of like you're staying at the house of some famliy friends that you don't know very well: they're perfectly fine having you stay with them, but they're not going to out of their way to interact with you. For us, this was perfectly fine... it was fun to see Zack following Burr around, and he and Linda are definitely enjoying the life. But just don't go expecting to be entertained or have activities planned. It's just not that kind of place.

Room Tip: We had room 23, which (aside from the decorating) was very good: balcony had great views, and it was nearby the breakfast area without being IN the breakfast area.
