This is a great place to stay. The sound of the waves and the feel of the gentle breeze with make you feel so relaxed. The property is very beautiful. It's nice to walk along the beach and lounge at the house, watch sunsets and rest in the hammock. There is no tv or phone, which is great. The furnishings are cozy and the kitchen has everything you need. There is equipment for the beach including snorkel gear. There are maps and information about Vieques at the house. There is a jeep you can rent from the caretaker. It's a little beat up, but does the trick. The caretaker is also very helpful if you need anything. There is an alarm system on the house which adds a safety element at night. There is no railing on the roof deck so be careful not to get crazy up there and slip. There are mosquitos so use bug spray and the nets around the bed. There is public access to the beach right next to this house so be aware that some people may be around. There was when we visited but they didn't bother us and quite frankly the sound of the waves drowns out most noise. This house is near the town of Isabel which is more quiet and less touristy then Esperanza. There is more action and bars in Esperanza. Driving in Isabel and to the house is a trip, but after one or two days it'll be ok. Here's some tips on Vieques in general that you may find helpful:

1. Driving is challenging and takes an element of bravery. Roads are cramped and dogs/horses/cats and chickens are roaming. Have patience and go slow.

2. Driving to some beaches and to the sugar mill/bunkers is rough and bumpy. It can be a little scary but a lot of fun.

3. Hardly anything is marked. I got lost a few times trying to find beaches or sights. But, we found our way.

4. Use bug spray when hiking or a night. There are mosquitos, nats and flys. With the expetion of if you go to the biobay. Don't be that dummy that wears bugs spray to a place where you shouldn't. The bugs are bad anyway at the biobay. I didn't get one bite.

5. Food is ok on the island. There is really nothing super great here that we found. But, Mamasongas is good and reasonable. Tin box was cool. Sol food and the other food truck near the beaches was good. Roys had a good breakfast and nice patio.

6. If you like to eat fruit, make smoothies or friuty drinks, hit up the fruit market.

7. The grocery store in town is not as good as the one out of town. Check expiration dates. Meat and eggs may be old.

8. Our favorite beach was Caracas. It has some waves and is easy to find. Sun and Media Luna beaches are great for kids or for those who like gentle waves. The road to Navio beach is crazy. We couldn't make it. Too much wash out. But I hear the waves are great for surfing. Secret beach and black beach, you have to hike to. So bring bug spray. The path to Black beach is right next to the Gallery Galleon. There is an arrow pointing to the path on the driving rail.

9. Communication to the locals was easy. Most speak English. But if not hand gestures and such worked for us.

10. The ferry seems to run on it's own schedule. It can be late so be careful if you need to catch a flight home in San Juan. If you can afford the small plane ride from/to the airports its worth it and very beautiful.

11. Snorkel at Mosquito Pier. It's nice and you'll see a lot of creatures.

12. Take a tour at the Biobay. It's really cool. Take the tour with Vieques Adventure Company. They have glass boats and it's really much better to see the glowing creatures then the regular kayaks. Be mindful to check the moon cycle and go when the moon is not as bright or has a later rise time.

Overall you will have a great time on Vieques. And this house, Los Cocos, is really really nice. I'd without a doubt recommed it and go back in a heart beat.
