LOCATION
The Halcyon is a great location being located between both The Grande and La Toc resorts; each 15 minutes complimentary minibus ride. The minibus could do with replacement (putting the airport bag in through the rear window) but it was adequate. The opportunity to visit the other resorts expands your dining experience and the other resorts have a different feel and atmosphere.
The gardens at the Halcyon were wonderful and well maintained to keep it in a beautiful, colourful experience.
ARRIVAL
The Sandals Lounge at the airport on arrival is a great idea, but needs to be managed; it was chaos but a welcome relief from the rows of people waiting for immigration. On arrival at the hotel the staff were prepared with paperwork and ready with a welcome drink and iced towels
FOOD & DRINKS
Kelly's on the pier was excellent food as was the Kimonos Asian & restaurant. The Bayside had a great variety and we went to the Italian Mario's on two occasions. At lunch we had good service and snack at the Beach Bistro while in sun bathing attire.
The bars in the resort are all stocked with premium spirits and the staff are (sometimes) very liberal with the quantities of spirits to mixers. The beer is either the local beer or Heineken and the challenge for cocktails was fun; the bar staff knew what a Baby Guinness was!
ROOMS
We had 3 rooms (819, 814 and 815) which were standard room at the honeymoon hideaway village. They were large and well appointed. The bed was large and very comfortable. They were however only a wire fence away from a duel carriageway (not shown on the resort map) which was noisy although it didn't prevent us from sleeping.
STAFF
The staff were all enthusiastic, happy and kind. They would go out of their way to help you if they was able; Agnes at the pool bar was particularly hurt by comments made on TripAdvisor recently, we found all the bar staff only too happy to help and often joking with clients. Latoya at Gordon's at the grand was very helpful and found us a cancellation when we arrived without a reservation.
POOL AREA
With two pools we experienced both the quiet and noisy pools. Both were equal fun, but as noted in other reviews the reserving loungers in premium spots is annoying although there were enough loungers for all guests.
SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES
We went SCUBA diving which involved a short minibus ride to the sandals aqua centre which is well equipped and has three dedicated boats, plenty of qualified staff and equipment. We also went snorkelling which was at the same centre.
We played golf at La Toc which for 3 casual golfers (with no handicaps) was a lot of fun. The caddies quickly established our capabilities and were very professional offering advice and help. 9 holes were very enjoyable at 08:00 tee time, exercise, education and entertainment.
The pool tables were a great asset and we made good use of them each night.
ENTERTAINMENT
It was disappointing at the time we were at The Halcyon the Paradise hall was taken by a private wedding one night, a private function and the annual Sandals staff awards on another occasion. It was only on the last evening that the venue was used for guests, it is a shame the private functions are priorities over paying guests we can only assume that this is pressure to maximise revenues.
We did experience the sing a long piano session which was excellent with a very talented piano

We stayed March 2017 and this was our first visit to a Sandals hotel and won’t be the last.

The transfer from the airport is about 1 hour 20 mins in a minibus. As others have mentioned it isn't the best. It is just one long winding, hilly road until you get to Castries. It’s well worth it when you arrive.

Check in was quick and Joseph took us to the room and helped getting the safe working. We were in a Luxury Honeymoon Hideaway room (standard room). These are in the grounds overlooking the quiet pool and just perfect for us. There is soft drinks, wine and beer in the fridge.

During the day we sat at the main pool where there was music and entertainment. The music is not that loud that you can’t enjoy reading a book. There were always sun beds available. Shara, Catherine and Crystal at the pool Sunset Bar were all great serving us drinks during the day.

Lady Trish, Jeva, big mama Chervelle and naughty Viana thanks for keeping us entertained from the lazy Gucci Gang!

Breakfast and lunch in the Bayside was buffet and never too busy. The food was very good in all restaurants. We enjoyed them all but Kelly’s was our favourite. Francis works hard to ensure the smooth running of them all.

In the evening there is entertainment. They publish a newspaper every 2 days called the Daily Breeze and that lets you know what’s going on in all 3 hotels. BBQ night was the best and good fun.

We visited the Grande and the beach was superb and hotel was lovely but we preferred the Halcyon where we found it friendly and smaller so you got to meet people and the staff would get to know you.

Don’t forget to see Rasta Charlie on the beach. He sells a few bits and pieces and is a great character.

If there is one thing that would be an improvement that would be to have waiter service at the tables in the evening as some nights the bar could get very busy.

Just before you leave the lovely Kay will sing you a lovely going home song in perfect harmony!

Wish we were still there and will definitely be going back.

Sandals Halcyon is a small property which is friendly and intimate. The food is as good as Sandals anywhere else with the Kelly's Dockside Restaurant on the Water being excellent and unique to this Sandals property. They have a variety with We went there last year and returned this year in March. Quite a few guests come every year and some stay for extended time. This Sandals has a very home like feeling where you feel like part of a big family. This time we had a Butler Suite and the Butler's were excellent and very helpful.
We will certainly go again. Maybe when we go again we will venture out to one of the two other and larger Sandals St. Lucia properties but it really is not necessary. We especially recommend the quiet pool which is a very friendly place with its own swim-up bar and none of the loud games and entertainment found at the main pool. The beach is narrow but good and the water is great to go into there. Beautiful sunsets too.
St. Lucia is a beautiful lush tropical island with much to be seen but when you stay at Sandals you tend to rarely leave the property. A day sail snorkeling trip on a catamaran is perfect for Sandals guests and they go out regularly taking Sandals guests from the three resorts.

Room Tip: Get Club level or butler

My husband and I have been loyal guests of Sandals resorts for many years. We love the experience of being pampered and Sandals have always been excellent on this! Until we holidayed at The Halcyon .....

Like others, we found the quiet pool was the only place to relax, as the main pool is very noisy and the beach is a public one with various vendors. However, you need to put towels down on your sun loungers before 7am, in order to reserve them-this became a daily chore-but it was a case of if you cannot beat them...then join them!

One of the most enjoyable things about being by the pool at a Sandals resort, is being offered drinks whilst relaxing. This rarely happened here! I think maybe on two occasions only, during the whole 12 days holiday.

Even when we swam up to the pool bar-we were basically ignored. On a number of occasions, my husband had to get out of the pool, climb the steps to the upper level of the bar...and still had to wait 10 minutes to be served! Considering that there weren’t many other guests at that time at the bar, we found this incredible! The staff seemed more concerned about filling up the popcorn machine.

On one occasion, we managed to place our drinks order with a friendly male staff member, at the quiet pool bar. He brought my husband’s beer and was about to set it down on the bar in front of him...only then to be loudly instructed by “Agnes” who seems to be the bar supervisor, to give my husband’s beer to another guy who’d just appeared at the bar, whom Agnes obviously recognised!!

When we protested, and asked her why she’d done this..Agnes pointed her finger at my husband’s face and sternly told him that he “still had some left in his glass”! Incredible anywhere-but at a Sandals resort-unbelievable......!!!

We also agree with others, that there is nowhere to relax in the evenings after dinner. It’s nice to chat with others and make new friends on holiday -but almost impossible to exchange conversation at the busy noisy, main bar here. It’s often hard to get a stool there too, as there just are not enough stools available, for the amount of guests at the resort.

There are lovely seats and fire pits situated around the resort. However, due to the occasional sudden rain showers most evenings, we often found the seats rain sodden, so impossible to sit on. Mainly, we just retired early to our room most evenings and had a “digestif” on our balcony.

Our room was advertised as a “Honeymoon Hideaway Walkout poolside room”. It is none of these! The first sentence describing this is ..and I quote directly from the Sandals website
“Honeymoon in serene seclusion...”.
We were allocated a room on the upper floor of a block of many. There is no “serene seclusion” as the balconies are all adjacent to each other, without any private screening whatsoever. There are small metal railings between each balcony and we could see other guests, six rooms away! The pool is also approximately a 100 Metres walk away. Come on Sandals-this is misrepresentation at best!!

I will say that the Manager, Christopher Elliott, when we spoke with him, is very polite courteous and professional. He does have a big responsibility and a large task in managing this property.

As another guest pointed out, the average age group of guests, is around mid fifties to sixty. I had previously read on trip advisor good reviews about the “Joe Knows” tour. So despite this being slightly more expensive than similar tours, decided to book it. We asked at the Sandals tour desk for all information and filled in the required forms, which asked our ages (although quite fit and young thinking-we fall into the latter of the average age group here!)

The tour was a speedboat trip to see the Pitons, try out a mud bath and shower in a natural waterfall, lunch and some snorkelling and then enjoy convivial rum punch cocktails during the return journey.

BEWARE..... this extremely expensive trip is in our opinion, not for anyone over 35! Not for the bit of walking involved, as you’re now imagining....as we mainly enjoyed that part of the trip- but the return boat journey was for us, teeth grindingly embarrassing. The trip was later described to us, as “A party boat”. I only wish someone had forewarned us. In a small boat -there is no escape! In retrospect, we were surprised, when booking, that the tour desk seeing our ages, had not advised us differently or suggested an alternative tour.

In summary...Sandals, we have always loved you- and in our long relationship, have always thought you worth every penny, despite you being comparatively expensive to other similar luxury holidays.

However, our recent experience this year at The Halcyon, has soured our relationship and our feelings towards you have now cooled somewhat. We haven’t ended our relationship just yet -after all we are Emerald Members and have experienced 70+ nights in your company. We hope that we can resurrect our former good opinion in time.

It may be a good idea Sandals, in view of your increasingly expensive holidays, to return again, to the first class, six star service that was once enjoyed by all!

We have just returned from a 10 day stay at this hotel. The stay was everything we had hoped for and more.
From the minute we arrived until leaving every member of staff made sure we had everything we needed .
If we wanted something and they didn’t know the answer they went to find someone who did.
The room was clean, very comfortable with a well stocked mini bar, replenished daily.
Food was lovely , plenty of choice to account for everyone’s taste.
Evening meal served from menu. Plenty of staff at all times.
Bar staff brilliant .
Made a piton sunrise cocktail . Hooked on them- so lovely.
If you want to take a tour, staff knowledgeable . Reassured me when I was unsure about Tree tip zip wire adventure , they were right it was amazing and fun.
Everything about staff said sunshine. They always had a smile, they were polite , helpful , courteous and friendly .
Wish we had booked a longer holiday.
Thank you everyone at Halcyon.
