“Great espresso, treats and iguanas!”
Review of La Sucriere

During a bus tour of St Maarten, we savored a few quiet and delicious moments at La Sucriere while everyone else was dropped off at the Carousel Gelateria Bar. At this modest French bakery and pastry shop, we enjoyed strong cups of coffee paired with chocolate almond croissants. These confections were delectably buttery, as authentic as anything in Paris, and much more affordable prices. The view from the back patio is across the water to the mountains. Colourful green iguanas basked in the sun, posed for photos, and nibbled on their treats of lettuce.

All pastries were French quality. Even saw 4 iguanas checking tables for food. Coffe, almond croissant, pistachio croissant and raisin roll were excellent.

While on tour we were allowed to roam for a couple of hours. After grabbing a quick local flavor for lunch we headed over for a fresh French pastry. Ended up leaving w/ two vanilla lattes, an eclair and a few assorted pastries. All were exceptional. There was a line mid-afternoon but it moved quickly.

We had some good pastries and coffee for breakfast. The space is very basic but has a nice patio looking onto the lagoon.

We were directed to this place while on a short visit during a shore excursion with Royal Caribbean cruises. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to visit the town of Marigot but the items we had here were very tasty and the staff were friendly overall. The only negative was that most of the staff did not understand English (or claimed they did not) so it was very difficult to understand exactly what it was that we were ordering. However, many of the items are laid out in a glass case so you can point to many items if all else fails. The covered outdoor seating was a nice break from the sun and you can watch the harbor as you relax and eat. I would recommend this place when you are visiting Marigot, St. Marteen.
