This is not a typical cafe. Jim is from Gloucestershire, via the world, thirty odd years ago. He is a character, who loves Mountain View and the BVI and his passion is infectious. Do not come for haute cuisine, but for dinner with a friend. I visited three times in two days, so I was enthralled by his world. Dinner is a maximum of two tables. The food is good, but not a culinary delight. The welcome and conversation is unmissable. Come at least once. You will love it or not. But I think most people would.

Most welcoming host, only takes 2 tables for dinner so excellent personal attention. More like a dinner guest than a customer. Small, friendly, good home cooking

We found the Mountain View restaurant by accident and ended up coming back for dinner.

We started the evening having one of Jim's Painkiller drinks in his bar. He makes a very good.Painkiller. One of the cruise ships actually stops here on the island tour for the Painkillers

The tenderloin steak was cooked perfectly medium with a nice peach port sauce. His mahi mahi was huge and was as good as any I've ever eaten. The salad and vegetables were both large portions and fresh

The key lime pie and crepes were both good desserts

Jim only serves two tables per evening so he can maintain a high level of service,

We had had a wonderful time chatting with this Brit who has been here for over 30 years.

The prices were reasonable and the service was some of the best on the island

I'm giving Mountain View an 'average' b/c I didn't eat here. We did stop in on our way to Sage Mountain Park and we spent a little while talking to the owner/operator. Very interesting guy and it sounded as those dinner there may have been amazing.

We did not return for dinner for these reasons, even though we have previously heard that the quality of the food was fantastic:

a) place is old, not well kept and seriously dated
b) the views from the dining room are non-existent. The vegetation completely covers the windows looking out.
c) just did not look inviting at all

We took the short route to the look out which I think would have been gorgeous except that the day we went, it was very hazy and a bit muddy bc there had been rain the day before. You MUST bring hiking shoes (tennis shoes at a minimum), and I would recommend socks. Where long sleeve's if you can just to protect your arms because it's a jungle hike but the path is clear.

Hope this helps.

We made a wrong turn and saw this place. We were hungry and it had just started to rain, so we stopped in for lunch. I had a burger and very greasy fries. My boyfriend had the fish burger, a frozen patty deep fried for about 30 minutes and quite burned (and no tarter sauce available). Seriously service was slow, food pretty lame, and the place seriously needs a cleaning. That should have scared me away. Jim was friendly and tried to convince us back for dinner, which was NOT happening. Banana smoothies were okay. He told us there were 5 pages of trip advisor reviews about them, but that was obviously not the case, since they are not here.
