Check in time is a joke but I'm guessing that this is the same all around Trinidad. The check in desk reminded me of the airline attendent on 'Meet the Fockers'. In this day in age doesn't the HHoners ID have all your information. What the heck are they typing???

The rooms were musty and not worth the price. I'm going to try one of the other new hotels next time but I'm guessing that this is the best you get in Trinidad.

I stayed at this hotel in December 2006 and at that time it was still under massive construction. The lobby was a dirty small room and the atmosphere was quite uncomfortable. The place has improved significantly since then, and during my April 2007 visit the hotel was an inviting and comfortable place. The lobby is elegant and spacious. The room and bed are very comfortable, good lighting and good Internet connection. The staff was friendly and helpful (though admittedly I did not have any extraordinary requests).

It all comes at a price; staying at that hotel is not inexpensive. Yet I was glad to stay here this time and will come again when business brings me to Port of Spain.

I stayed at this hotel for 26 days in March 2007. This was not by choice but was booked for me whilst I was conducting business. I was on the 11th floor on entering the room daily there was a damp musty smell, only alleviated by opening the balcony door and allowing air into the room. The balcony view was blocked by large palm trees and bamboo. The rooms showed signs of damp in that there was evidence of condensation running down the walls. The carpet was old and felt damp passibly wet although I did not lift it to see what was underneath.
Security was very poor, bearing in mind the Cricket World Cup. A Security Guard and Magnotometer situated at the entrance was useless. If you had bags, you put them at the side of the mag whilst walking through the mag, then picked up your bags and walked into the hotel, no one bothered to search the bags. One night when security had been increased due to a cricket related death on another island, I was accosted by two young prostitutes in the lift. A security guard prevented access to the lift on the lobby level but there was no one on the restaurent level. This was pointed out but denied. One night a guard was asleep outside the lift shaft on my floor. He never heard me arrive or go to my room

While staying in Port of Spain, Trinidad, for carnival, we looked around for good places to stay for future holidays. The Hilton Hotel is really run down and needs a lot of attention to it. We enquired about prices and it turned out to be over US$ 400 for a room per night not including even breakfast. Granted, the World Cup Cricket was going to start the next week, but it seemed very overated for the state of the hotel.

Frightful. The room was clean, however it was next to impossible to get new, non-mildewed towels. Channels didn't come in and most of the time I was terribly frustrated. I was nearly starved after working all day and returning at 11:00 PM, and somehow missed the restaurant being open until 11:30PM. Don't bother the guy at the bar - trust me, he can't be bothered and you'll just get annoyed. Instead, call for room service and pay - no joke here - $30US for a very small, very bad hamburger and not delivered the way you asked for it. Seriously, $30US for a teensy-tiny hamburger - and that's without cheese or bacon - those are $8US more.

If you want to take your coffee to your room after breakfast, be prepared to be accosted, though they will provide the smallest ToGo cup possible.

All in all, I hated my stay there and wished desperately that the time to go home would come quickly. At least some of the staff were nice, but at nearly $200 a night, I'd expected a whole lot more. I found myself screaming in frustration several times. I'd recommend elsewhere - unless $200US is cheap for you.
