British Colonial Hilton Nassau
Ranked #5 of 36 Hotels in Nassau
Reviewed 25 August 2012

We used the facilities of the Hilton this week during a cruise port stop at Nassau. We did not need to reserve ahead of time. After a short walk (ten minutes?) from the dock, we inquired at the reception desk and were graciously received. Passes were $55. per person (we used our credit card), which included a $30 credit for food and drink per person. Bar service was attentive (cocktails between about $9-$15) and food was good. The server let us know when we were approaching our "credit" limit (very considerate), and the balance was added to our card. Even with three ships in port, there were not many people using the facilities. There was an assortment of loungers poolside, including some lovely Bali beds. In addition, there were many loungers with shaded tops on the beach. Restrooms were clean. In all, a quiet, relaxing day...minutes from the ship. We were very pleased with our choice!

I was expecting some old colonial glamour at this hotel. There is none. Surly check-in staff provide the worst welcome possible. The rooms are small with the minium of amenities. My bathroom shower leaked constantly and the hotel charges for every conceivable item - even if you have an exective floor room, as I did (not that it was worth the extra money - the breakfast offered in the 'exectuve lounge' was substandard. The two things that this hotel has going for it are the staff at the beach and at the bar, who were good humoured and genuinely enjoyed being helpful and hospitable. If only the same could be said for the rest of the place.

Room Tip: Avoid if possible.

Would much rather stay here than on Paradise Island. Can walk to restaurants with healthy options. Excellent service. Great gym. Breakfast good. Other meals average. Internet was not good unfortunately.

Our family was planning a Carnival cruise to Nassau and could not find any excursions thru Carnival that we liked. A couple of weeks prior to our trip, I read many great reviews about British Colonial and we decided to give it a try. It was an awesome experience which we highly recommend! The price is affordable and you even get food/drink vouchers to use that day. We spent the entire day on the beach swimming, my son used the kayak and snorkel gear and we had the best day!!! The hotel is a short walk from the cruise ship and you get to see many other ships pull in throughout the day. This was our first cruise and first time out of the US and we did not want to get far away from our ship - this was perfect because we could see our ship the entire day. The British Colonial is a must, especially for first timers!!! The water is crystal blue, the beach is very adequate, the pool is nice, access to restrooms and bar/grill are close and the Bahama Mamas are wonderful!!!

We stayed for one night only; two connecting rooms. The front desk staff and bell staff were extremely friendly and efficient. That was the last time we had good service during our stay. Our rooms were outdated and small with a view of a rooftop. The pool area and beach were small and extremely outdated. The beach had cabanas with old cushions and we could find no towels or any staff at the towel shack. The pool has no hot tub and was dirty (trash including old worn bandaids). The worst experience was the breakfast the next day. It was a Sunday morning and we had to wait for 30 minutes to get coffee and juice. We had to get up, once we went through the buffet, to get our own silverware.
