Never before have I stayed in a place that was this stark and unappealing. This situation is the antithesis of hospitality. First, let me say that the hotel staff is doing the very best that they can under the circumstances. Choice Hotels as a a corporation and the company that owns this hotel are doing these loyal employees a TERRIBLE disservice by asking them to perform well under these conditions.
We were supposed to stay 3 nights, and we only stayed one. I didn't even want to stay for that one, but we'd driven most of the day to get there. The lobby was stark. There were maybe 5 breakfast tables, but no other place to sit. No couch, no chair, nothing. There was not one piece of artwork in the entire building. There was no corporate logo behind the front desk. There was no corporate sign outside at the entrance. There was a wire hanging where the sign should have been. There is no covered place to unload your car. If it's raining, you are unloading in the rain.
The room was even worse. It truly looked like a prison cell. There was no artwork. There were no lamps at all. The only lighting was fluorescent lighting overhead. If you wanted to unwind by dimming the lights and reading....forget it. The light choices were airport bright or off. There were no dust ruffles on the beds. Just a metal frame with a mattress on it. There were no curtains on the window. Thankfully there was a room darkening shade, but no curtains. (see picture) Our voices echoed in the room because it was so stark.
The room itself was VERY clean, but also VERY tiny. There is no closet, but a bar to hang your clothes over the microwave. (see picture) The iron and ironing board are mounted on the wall in the room, but the room isn't big enough to use them. Four adults would NOT fit comfortably in this room.
Words cannot describe how sterile and cold the whole building felt.
There was no hot breakfast, and it wasn't because of covid. They have no kitchen. There were refrigerated sandwiches you could heat up, but they got soggy in the microwave. There were pre-packaged muffins as well. When we checked in, we were told there would be cereal. There wasn't. We brought our own cereal with us, but there was no milk for us.
One more thing about our room. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious, but the hot water was an issue. For a while, we could only get hot water in the sink. Then the water in the toilet was hot. We could feel the warmth coming from it, so we checked. The shower water would only get hot for one person to take a shower – even after waiting 30 minutes for the water to “recover”.
Choice Hotels should be ashamed for letting this hotel be in this condition. We were told that the lamps and dust ruffles should be in next month. They've been operating 3 months like this, so if it were me, I'd check on all of these things before subjecting yourself to this environment.
