My partner and I have eaten at The Gate several times. The lamb chops are amazing and their salmon is good. The roast dinners are really good value BUT more often than not the roast potatoes are inedible, hard and tasteless, same with the mash potato. Generally the veg is really bland and poorly seasoned. If they spent a little more time on the veg and made it more inspiring it would be a cracking roast dinner.

Nice beer garden and conservatory with a traditional pub area also which I like so something for everyone. It’s generally busy especially on weekends but you always seem to be able to get a table and the service is great.

Please sort out the vegetables and I’ll eat here regularly! Maybe some cider red cabbage or make the mash more buttery would massively lift it. Great portion size though and lovely crackling.

The Gate Sign hangs conspicuously above the builing on the Barnet to Borehamwood Road. Was Trevor Howard's local when he was alive. Great traditional food in comfortable surroundings that have been extended over the years.

We shared a platter of dips olives and flatbreads which was probably too big for us. Very tasty and the bread was quite warm.
My fish and chips were, as always very tasty although slightly too much batter this time which was also extra crunchy. My friend had the steak salad which she found very tasty and again it was a huge portion which she couldn’t finish. The wine (Chenin blanc) was good too. Service was reasonable bearing in mind that it was packed on a Weds lunchtime.
Total cost was £54 inc bottle of wine . Could probably skipped the starter

We regularly visit The Gate because we know we’re always going to get top quality food no matter how busy they are. The specials change regularly but the food on the standard menu offers a massive choice so you can’t go wrong!
The atmosphere is lovely and the new outside eating area is fantastic all year round with its retractable roof. The only minor downside is the size of the car park, but there’s not much that can be done about that, if you’re prepared to park up the road and walk for a couple of minutes you won’t be disappointed!!

WHENEVER I GO TO THE GATE RESTAURANT, IT IS VERY BUSY. the staff are always very friendly, very helpful, and very welcoming. the food is always very delicious, hot, and welcoming. this restaurant is always very busy at lunch times because the carpark is very full. I love going to this restaurant because the atmosphere is very happy and bubbly.
