It is always a pleasure to see someone working in a job they're born to do. Jay, the owner of Gerard's Place, is someone like that. She is an amazing host, welcoming, helpful, competent and generous. She always has time to chat or recommend activities, without ever being annoying or intrusive. She spontaneously drove us to several places without ever even mentioning charging us for it, she and Joshua helped us a lot to make the best of our three days in Tanah Rata and she has a really cute dog (which has nothing to do with the place but I always prefer dog people). We travel a lot, and we had many really great hosts, but Jay may have been the best.
The rooms are nice (they have ones with or without private bathroom), you get breakfast there - but, fair warning, it's quite cold inside. While that is perfect to cool off in between travels through hot Malaysia, you're going to want to bring long trousers and a jacket. It's colder in Cameron Highlands in general so you'll need those either way.
For our time there, we decided not to book any tours and were quite happy with that decision. After consulting Joshua, we settled on spending one day hiking (we chose trail 1, which is supposed to be the hardest of the trails they have, and while it was steep and muddy and challenging, a tour guide probably would not have improved the experience for us) and one day looking at tea plantations. Both days were amazing. I got the feeling that a lot of people only go on organized group tours in Cameron Highlands, which might be nice but is not a must.
All in all: I absolutely recommend spending a couple of days in the Cameron Highlands, and I would always book a room at Gerard's Place again.

Great 4 night stay here and would recommend to all. Great value (we are backpackers) and a lovely, helpful and friendly family running it. Clean and spacious room and great living area/kitchen, as well as nice view from balcony. Simple breakfast included, use of kitchen and free tea and coffee, comfortable lounge and decent bathroom. Couple of minutes up the hill from main strip but it's really not far. We given a lift to town the morning we left for the bus and also, we returned one night to chocolate cake and a note saying 'enjoy' because it was Valentines day! One night we were the only room occupied of 3 so basically had the whole apartment to ourselves. Would recommend for sure.

You can reach every trail from their easily. And the family will give you perfect tips where to go. They even have pretty detailed maps (the app "maps.me" is the best though).
The rooms are nice too. Nothing to complain.

Style of an English Bed and Beakfast, quite modern and very clean. Is somehow connected to fathers guesthouse. Usual breakfast with toast tee and coffee. Booked a Jeep Tour throught the highlands direct in the House. -->Top Tip!

Got a free ride to the busstation with "Mother guesthouse"

The rooms are clean and the toast/jam/tea/coffee in the morning is helpful. Cameron Highlands doesn't have the most luxurious accommodations and most of the 'nicer' hotels are overpriced and out dated. Gerard's is modern, basic, and will meet all of needs for a few day visit to the Highlands. We didn't see staff other than when we checked in, but would have loved to chat a bit. 5-10 minutes walking into town depending on where you're going.
