I was extremely happy with our stay at Railay Princess Resort. The facilities (especially the pool!) were beautiful and well kept. The location was perfect: right next to the dock for the boats, a quick walk to all the beaches, and far enough away from the busy restaurants/bars so that it was quiet. I'm already fantasizing about returning. ;) There's no need to pay twice as much for a different hotel, because the quality at other locations was not higher.
I suggest eating elsewhere though, because it seemed like they're cooking for a Western palette. So if you want authentic seasoning, check out the local restaurants.
Seriously, this is a great resort. I'm sure you'll be happy with your stay.

Room Tip: It's worth it to pay a little more for the "Grand Deluxe" rooms. There's better furniture and a nicer view.

This resort was next to ours so we decided to try the food here.

No formalities here, we sat outside by the beach (not one of the best beaches in the area) and ate grilled red snapper and salad which was lovely.

Made the mistake of ordering a bottle of wine. Thought you couldn't go wrong with Pinot Grigio but found out you could.

It amazes me how no where in Thailand does a decent bottle of wine!

Nice hotel with friendly staff. The hotel has two separate pools, a gym and a spa. Close to the forest, so we got to see quite a lot of wildlife. Monkeys often came and raided the mini bars of the people unfortunate enough to forget to lock their door. Very funny :) they were not a nuisance, and they kept well clear of people.

We enjoyed our stay at Railay
Beautiful place
Had a tough time to settle until we get to the room initially
Couldn't blame the hotel
It was the travel agent failure to update the child details
But hotel staff cooperated
Only Certain staff was very friendly and provided the best hospitality
Staff at the Travel desk was rude

We stayed here for the first five nights of our two week trip to Thailand, left for three days, and came running back. I cannot for the life of me understand people's complains about this place. The staff has been helpful and welcoming, rooms cleaned expediently each morning, grounds are well cared for, you name it. For roughly $40/USD a night (during low season) with breakfast included, we have no complaints whatsoever. AC works great in the rooms, spacious bathroom and shower. We have loved our stays here and would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Railay. Oh, and don't let the east side location deter you- it's right next to the pier for convenient long tail access, and the trail to Pranang Cave Beach. People who commented that you must walk far thru the mud from the west to east side did it all wrong. First of all, anyone traveling to this country with roller luggage is asking for a hassle. Second, there are several paved trails to take - they just wrote about their unlucky pick of the muddy one.
