“People as far as your eyes can see”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2015

All you see on this beach is people sun bathing, it gotten so damn crowded that it feels like a sunbathing movement where everyone is just lying down there under the sun. Don't get me wrong,I like to see people basking soaking up the sun but when it is THIS many, you better off finding a beach somewhere else. The water is at is usual blue no where near the crystal blue you see when you visit nearby island but still it's a fun place to just enjoy the waves and also the sound of longtail boat destroying every serenity there is left every single time they move from point A to B.

“Stop over only”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2015 via mobile

We spent 4 days in Ao Nang (2 days relaxing by the pool and 2 days on day trips). I would not recommend staying in Ao Nang unless you like to feel like you are in a Spanish tourist hotspot. At night there is centre point (Neon lights, ladyboys, pole dancers and loud music) and a few other bars. The area at the end of the beach (by The last Fisherman and all the massage places) is much nicer and right at the end you can go and see the monkeys (beware though...these monkeys are cheeky and will grab your bag and food if you have some...but hey, that is what monkeys do :-)).

From Ao Nang we went on two excursions, one to Railey Beach (would recommend) and one on the Phi Phi island tour (not great for snorkelling, but Bamboo island is beautiful and you (along with thousands of others) go to the location where the beach was filmed).

I would recommend Ao Nang as a stop over only.

“"Rent a scooter in Krabi"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2015 via mobile

We stayed 3 nights in Krabi and took the longtail boats to the various islands and sights which was great. But the most fun thing we did was rent a scooter and drive up to the National park about 45km away. Scooter rental costs between 200 and 300 baht for 24hours. Unfortunately you will have to give your passport in here otherwise they won't give you the bike. There is no insurance here so you sign a waiver that if you wreck the bike its going to be yours to buy basically which was a bit scary. That said driving through the country side and seeing the locals and the rubber plantations and waterfalls and caves was a major highlight of my trip to Thailand ( I have come twice now). The traffic can be a bit scary at times but if you feel you have the nerve, by all means do it, it was great fun.

“The beach is ok but not great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2015

The beach is ok and rather good. But you can find many other beaches in this area that are better. The water is ok but not very good.

“A stepping stone, NOT a destination”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2015

This is the Cancun of Thailand. A quasi beach boardwalk with lots of kitschy stores and overpriced restaurants serving pretty mediocre fare. Travel books say this is a decent hub to get to other places, but I'd actually suggest staying in one of the destination points that you're trying to get to rather than bedding down here. It's a real tourist trap, with little to recommend it other than there are a good number of pretty easy ways to leave. The beach is ok, but nothing compared to those only a boat ride away.
