We spent three hours walking around the park and the experience of seeing so many beautiful birds merits five stars. An extra one would be appropriate for allowing us to go in when we arrived twenty minutes before the official opening time of 9 am.

We considered our selves very fortunate to be able to visit this park that features six different environments and a few lakes in an area covering about 17 acres with approximately 1800 birds and more than 135 species: that's the Aviario Nacional de Colombia!
The entrance fee is 40,000 COP (credit cards accepted) per person and it takes about two hours to tour; on site there are a couple of coffee shops, a restaurant and restrooms.
There are also two daily shows but we had to skip the afternoon one in order to be able to finish our tour before closing (4:00 P.M.).
What we particularly appreciated was the American (pink) flamingos, condor of the Andes, Emu, parrots, peacocks to name just a few.

We stopped by the aviary on our way to Playa Blanca and absolutely loved it! I believe they said there's around 130 different species of birds and they were all just beautiful. It's a very open place where even the enclosures are roomy for the birds to fly around in. It happened to be extremely hot the day we went so make sure to wear sunscreen and drink water! There is a small drink stand about halfway through to purchase beverages and snacks if needed.

I went to the Aviary on an shipos excursion from the CMV Columbus and really enjoyed the time we spent there. We were asked to follow a guide, arranged by the ship, around the Enclosures, who was not really an expert at identifying the birds. I did see some passengers from another ship who were able to freely walk around the Aviary at their own pace, which is what I wanted to do myself, but was discouraged from doing so.
I thought that some of the gifts in the Gift Shop were overpriced

We loved everything about the park. Not many places have thia variaety of birds and take good care of them. If you are coming from playa blanca deffinitely take a taxi as the walk is long, hot, and not very safe.
