We had just finished a hot trip to Copalita Eco-Archaeological Park, and desperately needed ocean and food. We had seen the beach from the park's overlook, and drove straight for it. The family that owned La Bocana Restaurante let us set our stuff down at a table while we all ran into the beautiful ocean (note: Playa Bocana is small and nice, you just have to get past the rocks in the sand for about 3 yards and it's great!).

We all ordered the fish, and shrimp tacos, micheladas, and some fresh lemon juice with mineral water. The family let us hose off the sand, wander in and see the kitchen, and just relax. When the food came out, it was heavenly. Freshly made, and amazing. Such great people- it made for a perfect day :)

We had a terrific evening at La Bocana. An incredible array of food suggested by the friendliest crew you could imagine. Maybe the best shrimp I've ever had.

My wife and I have spent a month in the Huatulco area. As we had never been here before, every second day was spent exploring a new venue or area. Today we wanted to experience the mud wraps on La Bocana beach. While they were fun and certainly worth trying out at least once. However our real surprise was stumbling upon the La Bocana restaurant and bar locales there. Mayra and Ariana, two of the family members who run this establishment were EXCEEDINGLY kind. We just stopped in just to ask them about things in the area to see. We got a history lesson of the archeological significance of this area and great details about local sight seeing. They permitted us to occupy a table with our beach bags while we explored the area, without any obligation. When we returned back, we decided to have a lemonade before returning to Santa Cruz. This was our mistake! We looked at the menus and saw five fresh fish tacos for 100 pesos ($6.50 Canadian). Well you can't have fish tacos without a beverage or two. After lunch on their beautiful ocean front terrace, we did not want to leave. It was a perfect setting. What to do? I know, let's eat more and drink more.
We had them make us up some nacho chips and three different sauces ( mild, medium and hot) and a couple more drinks.
We spent most of the remainder of day here, even though we had originally only intended to drop in and ask a simple question.
However their genuine kindness and friendliness quickly won us over.
I can't wait to come back.

On a side not, while eating our lunch we watched a local fisherman wade deep into the surf over and over and cast his circular net out into the ocean. He was fishing for sardines and in three hours collected a huge pail of them.

You'll also have to meet their two tame parrots who kept watch over the restaurant from the tree out front. Great for photos.
Next year we plan on visiting the nearby archeological park early in the morning before it gets two hot. Then return to this restaurant (5 minutes away) and have a cool drink or two and another wonderful meal. I'd highly recommend this restaurant but plan to spend the day relaxing here.

Thank Tom F

That's right..... Beware!!...... You may just fall in love with this place!

Took a short ride on Scooter from Santa Cruz to Bocana Beach and decided on this place for a drink...... Perfect setting and an amazing friendly family running the place! Ariana is wonderful and actually speaks English better than me! Haha And her brother Christian is great too..... He can even teach you to surf if you are feeling adventurous! A great place to sit and watch the powerful waves and, if you are like me.... try a little body surfing!! Just be careful as these waves a quite powerful (For a Prairie Boy anyways! lol).

Have not tried the food YET but will be back and plan to bring a group of friends along!

Please feel free to msg me with any questions!

Excellent sea food, cooked with passion. Very good service, friendly, fast. We liked the most the grilled fish and the ceviche. We keep going there almost every two three days while in Huatulco.
