I eat at this restaurant every time I am in town. It is much more authentic than other places. They have fresh ingredients and a variety of dishes, from sushi rolls and cones to fried rice, soups, and noodle dishes. I love the variety of soy sauces that they offer- low sodium, regular, with jalapeños, and with lime juice. The service is great and the prices are very reasonable.

I didn't think that Japanese food this authentic existed in Mexico. So it was a huge and pleasant surprise to stumble upon this unprepossessing restaurant wedged in next to one of the major glorietas in Guadalajara. It certainly doesn't shout out from the street, and once inside the decor is quirky without being overly flashy, enough restraint to suggest that this is a restaurant that relies on its reputation for good food and not gimmicks to get customers through the door.

We entered on whim as our original pick for lunch was shut, but from the first glance through the menu I was encouraged. This is much more than a sushi place, the menu ran to considerably more substantial options, and the range of dishes available is impressive. And I'm just not accustomed to seeing a range of (quality-graded) tuna varieties, or items such as sea urchin roe, on offer at Japonese restaurants in Mexico. All very promising.

Sadly I hadn't entered with a raging appetite, otherwise I might've ordered many more items, but the miso soup, followed by tempura, were excellently prepared and presented, and the California Roll that came was also perfectly proportioned in its ingredients and balanced flavours. Another encouraging sign was that the tempura came with grated fresh horseradish, not fake wasabi paste. OK, real fresh wasabi would've been better, but I'd be more likely to be hit by a metoerite than find truly authentic wasabi in Mexico. Fresh horseradish is a better substitute than the spicy green toothpaste most places serve.

Another plus was the beer selection, that also decorates the walls. There were at least four display refrigerators full to choose from, in fact the selection is more extensive than the dedicated World Beer Store across the street, and is one of the most extensive I've seen anywhere in Mexico. Thumbs up for effort!

Sadly I can second some previous comments regarding the service. It wasn't terrible, but given the small size of the restaurant it was difficult to see how we could have been left unattended for such long stretches during the meal. The ambience was OK without being especially warm or convivial, but neither aspect detracted from the main feature of this restaurant - its top notch food.

Which, incidently, is just how I like restaurants to be.

The building and atmosphere is nothing special, but the staff is polite and take good care of you. The menu is your typical Japanese fare and it's just fine. This is not a place to take your date, but a great place for a casual dinner or a nice afternoon lunch if you're out shopping.
