Better than most Japanese restaurants in NYC, by a lot. You won't find any rolls with cream cheese here. In fact, this isn't a roll joint. This is where you come for real Japanese food. The nigiri sushi is excellent. You will find hamachi here, uni, saba, toro when available and all the other usual suspects. The agedashi tofu was the best I have ever had and I have been enjoying Japanese food for 30 years now, including in Japan, where I have been on many business trips. The one thing we had we didn't like was the grilled squid. It was way too tough. There are hibachi tables here and they serve shabu-shabu at your table. They looked fine, but we mostly stuck to the fish. I gave this 5 stars, but that is on a not-in-Japan scale. Suehiro cannot really compare to real Japanese-in-Japan as restaurants in Japan specialize on one thing or another versus offering everything Japanese. Still, if you want to get you Japanese on in Guadalajara, Suehiro is your go-to place. It's also very reasonable.

A piece of Japan in guadalajara. Great food, great deco. A real Japanese food restaurant. Nice waitresses in kimono.

Suehiro is an institution in guadalajara, it shows its age, but is always in the conversation as one of the top 3 japanese restaurants in GDL. This time our itamae told us, they have a japanese chef, so we tried our luck with items as the chawanmushi, we´re glad we did, everything was authenthic.

The sushi bar had its ups and downs, the rice was too dry, but the quality of the fish was right there.

A stunningly beautiful restaurant in the heart of Guadalajara. Our dining room overlooked a lovely Japanese garden, complete with a waterfall and koi pound.

The menu is extensive and not cheap. Dishes were well executed, and the fish dishes incredibly fresh.

Some dishes are hard to figure out from the menu, and some seem overly expensive compared to others. That's the only reason I didn't give it a "five." The wait staff did the job professionally.

Interesting that they offer a number of teppanyaki grills (think Benihana), but unlike many don't demand a full table. We saw several with just a couple seated for the meal.

As is often the case at higher end restaurants in Mexico, expect a wait if you arrive after 9 or so.

This restaurant would rate 5 stars anywhere in the world. But what a pleasant surprise to to find it in Guadalajara. The service was top notch as all the staff worked together to attend your needs during the dinner.

We started with tuna sashimi and teka maki sushi. The tuna was fresh and tasty. For the main course we had Teriyaki Chicken. Again it was perfectly prepared with vegetables that prepared aldente.

Dessert was halado frito (fried ice cream). I've had this at other restaurants but this is the first time that I found the crust crispy and not soggy from the melted ice cream. Somehow they found the way to do it right!

In Guadalajara, if you have the urge for Japanese food, this is the restaurant to seek out.
