The museum is so very beautiful and packed with Mexican folk art! The textures, colors and artistry are amazing. I highly recommend visiting.

I would recommend everybody to visit this rather small museum to get an impression of some of the Mexican culture. The gift shop is a must!

We thoroughly enjoyed this museum, everything was so bright and vibrant. Understanding the cultural references in the art was also interesting and helped frame the rest of our time in Mexico. The museum is also the exact right size, you dont feel overwhelmed or wanting to skip out. The only complaint I have are the prices in the gift shop, we had been to the artists market before hand and it was the same stuff at 1/10th the prices.

What kind of museum has monsters in its stairwell? (See the photo.) Actually, when I visited on January 9th, there were monsters encircling the ground floor -- and more looking down from one end of the three floors above. Signs said that this was the 11th annual Alebrijes Monumentales competition at the museum. (Do an image search online for "alebrijes monumentales" to see many many.) Don't touch the monster! (See photo.)

There's a great sense of humor behind this museum. Even the bag-storage people joked with me about one of the two things I checked. But there are also more-serious displays of folk art going back centuries. I spent four hours here and only had time to glance at a number of the works.
