Surprisingly calm and peaceful .. an oasis in the city....the ambiance captures the Romance between Diego and Freida. Pleasant gardens and sweet museum depicting Freidas life.
A very pleasant place to spend an afternoon.

we actually didnt go in since we didbt want to wait for 5 hours in the queue. some people we spoke to were queuing since 7am and there were not even the first. smartest thing to do is to order your ticket online which we found out too late for us to try /:

I have been dreaming of visiting this place. It was great! The guide was excellent, the gardens, the house, everything was great!

Practicalities: get there 15-20 mins earlier than your time slot and join the ticketed queue. The other queue is for those without tickets. Once inside you can buy a permit to take photos from the little room on the right where you can also drop your bag. The photo permit is 30 pesos (at the time of writing this there were about 21 pesos to £1 sterling) and you will need it if you want to use any kind of a camera including your phone (highly likely that you will want to!). The staff do stop people taking photos who have not got a permit. You can also buy a foldout card that tells you about Casa Azul, available in Spanish and English versions. There is a shop located in the gardens for souvenirs, postcards and books, a tiny cafe area and toilets.

It's a beautiful place full of colour and dappled light in the gardens. If you are a fan of Frida's work expect a very moving experience walking into her studio and seeing her inks, paints, brushes and pastels; her personal belongings in her day bedroom and her night bedroom. Take your time and soak it all in. Beautiful! Some of her artwork is on show; paintings and sketches, as was some of her clothing and accessories. Good information is provided on text panels as you walk through the house. There are also many pieces that she and Diego collected all over the house and in the gardens. Small photographs and quotes from Diego and Frida are set out in the gardens and you come across them as you wander the paths.

The Dolores Olmedo museum holds the biggest collection of Frida's paintings but they were being packed up to go on tour when we were there in March '18. Worth checking though!

I really liked visiting La Casa Azul. It’s a beautiful house but it gets really, really full. We waited like 45 minutes to go in. You will spend about an hour in the house.
