“Just alright..not much to this hotel”
Reviewed 30 November 2010

Helpful concierge, limited English speaking people within the staff, not much to this hotel except one tall building where they have crammed everything. Very small lobby area, restaurant also was an odd shape, breakfast spread was decent but not much for a vegetarian. Rooms are decent, the gym is small but located on the higher floor with a great view of the city which made it fun. Fortunately the net connection worked well which was critical.

Beautiful room overlooking the "Castillo". Great complimentary service (shoe shine...). However WiFi is NOT free. Very quiet, great sleep. Excellent breakfast with spotless service from the waiters. However the price was kind of high. Was it because I was in Mexico City during a busy week?

Everything about this hotel is compact. There's barely room for one vehicle to pull into the outer reception area (not great considering the way monied folks love their giant SUVs). The lobby is tiny. The rooms...well, don't bring too many suitcases with you!

Front desk staff is competent. The bartender in the lobby bar was GREAT! Bell staff are all very accommodating. Most of the hotel taxis (we took three different ones during our stay) are clean. We took the Suburban to the airport and the driver was great.

The view of Chapultapec park and El Castillo was phenomenal. It made the room! As with our stay at the Hilton Reforma (see review) we struggled with getting the feather bedding taken care of (alleriges). At least the housekeeping person was very nice. The room layout is somewhat awkward, with lots of wasted space between the sleeping area and the bathroom. Beds were okay. Cleanliness was adequate.

The surrounding neighborhood is decent but not attractive. At least it's a short walk to Chapultepec park and the Anthropology museum (a must see).

Value is so-so. Probably considered reasonable given the proximity to Chapultepec, but we'll probably stay closer to Polanco or along the Reforma next time. Buen viaje!

I got about $20 off per night through an online travel site, which made a big difference compared to what I could've gotten for the same price. The Chapultepec is a very modern and comfortable hotel; about what you'd expect from higher-end 3-star hotels in the US, with flat screen TV, ironing board, blow dryer, very modern marble bath with all the amenities. The cleaning staff were excellent. Any clothes I left lying out were folded neatly and placed in the closet; shirts were hung on hangers. The in-room WiFi isn't free, but you actually pay for usage by the hour. So if you pay for 24 hours, it counts the hours you're actually connected, so you could span several days on 24 hours. It took about 4 hours to download a 700MB file, so don't expect super high speeds. It's adequate for web browsing, emailing, getting work done, etc.

I ordered room service once (expect to pay US prices for room service and minibar) when I was just too worn out to go hunting for food. It was good enough hotel fare. There are a few restaurants around the three or four blocks away from the park. I found a pretty decent taco place on the street two blocks away. But the neighborhood isn't bustling with eateries, so for anything special expect to travel.

I mainly stayed here because of the proximity to the anthropology museum, which is an incredible experience. It's by far one of the most lavishly put together museums I've seen. If you're into archaeology and anthropology, set aside a whole day. And stay away from the food vendors out front of the museum - there's far better street food to be had elsewhere.

I will definitely stay at the Chapultepec again when I'm in Mexico City.

We stayed 3 nights at the Fiesta Americana Grand Chapultepec and found it compares very favorable to other 4 star hotels we've stayed at in Mexico City (Nikko, Sheraton Centro Historical). The main reason we choose this hotel (other than the great price on Expedia) was for the location across the street from Chapultepic Park and we were not disappointment with a room on the 8th floor with a gorgeous view of the castle. The hotel was very comfortable with a firm mattress, in room safe, robe, slippers, floor to ceiling windows. The only negative that comes to mind is the ice maker was not working on the floor we were on.
