Sir Winston Churchill's is a classical restaurant which touches perfection. As it happens at Harry's bar in Venice or at Café de Paris in Monaco, everything is top quality. Tables are perfectly spaced, chairs are very comfortable. Fresh flowers please the eye. The red jacketed waiters are experienced enough to anticipate every need. And there is a pianist, which is great if you happen to be on your own, as it creates a good focal point between dishes.
Food is British traditional. As you were at Simpson's in the Stand. This is what I had and what I would warmly recommend: clam chowder (best in a quarter of a century), garlic steak ou gratin (delicious alternative to the Wellington beef, which is the strong suit of the House) and the fabulous Kafka cake (it is not in the menu or on the trolley, so you have to ask your waiter). I had two margherita to accompany the meal and left content and restored, as very few times in my life.
