The facade is deceiving--plain and unassuming, but upon entering you immediately see that this is a different kind of hotel. The staff are instantly welcoming and helpful, and the view into the interior courtyard is a hint of what is to come. The lobby is informal with a small bar and lounge areas next to the check-in desk. The other side of the courtyard houses the excellent restaurant Lum. I was here for a 4-day staff retreat and was assigned room 14, upstairs on a corner overlooking the interior garden, lush with flowering plants and water features and sitting areas. The king-size bed was extremely comfortable, and the well designed bathroom fills the back of the room, which can be shut-off with sliding doors, mirrored on the bathroom side. Separate toilet and shower rooms are on either side with frosted glass doors. The rainfall shower was particularly luxurious. The design combines sleek contemporary elements with rustic local touches. A large wooden and concrete desk accommodated the work I needed to accomplish on this business trip. Two well-designed closet spaces just outside the bathroom on either side easily held clothes and luggage. I especially liked the neon room numbers outside each room. An upstairs library-lounge provides a relaxing place to read and have coffee. There is a separate building in the back with wall-length windows looking out into the garden, which was a perfect spot for our planning meetings for 12 people. Service was excellent, more akin to that on a cruise ship, where staff would tidy-up your room throughout the day as needed. And we had several excellent meals at Lum, the hotel's well-reviewed restaurant. My only complaint is that someone needs to make chicken soup from the rooster next door, who crows throughout the day and night. The hotel, at least, provides ear-plugs.

Room Tip: If you have mobility issues, ask for a ground-floor room, as there is no lift to upper floor rooms.

We spent 3 happy and delightful days here. Would love to return.
Staff: Amazing. Will go far beyond duty to be helpful. All are so friendly and courteous.
Room: At the far end of the corridor we had our own balcony, and not bothered by passersby. All rooms were well fitted out. Comfortable bed, desk and large bathroom / robe area.
Cleanliness: Excellent.
Communal areas: all very comfortable.
Restaurant: one of the best in Mexico (see review for Lum)
Improvement: More heating in communal areas. Quite chilly in the restaurant with front door always open and doors to courtyards constantly opened. Guests often sitting with overcoats on. My bedside light could only be operated from the other side. (Certainly a minor issue)

Room Tip: No 14 - end of the corridor and own balcony

This is one of the better hotels in San Cristobal and it has beautiful grounds. Not ostentatious. The staff is very nice and helpful. The restaurant is also very good. Very good location. The hotel arranged for a driver to pick us up at Tuxtla Gutierrez and take us to Sumidero Canyon which is on the way to San Cristobal.

We flew into Tuxtla and hired a Taxi for £40 for the 1 hour ride into San Cristobal. Hotel Bo wasn't easy to find but once we'd walked through the bright blue front door we immediately knew we'd found a gem of a boutique hotel.
Luis was so welcoming and informative throughout our entire stay. In fact all the staff were so charming, obliging and professional.
We were upgraded into Room 21 (Vin) which was modern with every luxury you could wish for, including Molten Brown toiletries. The main bedroom was huge with such a comfortable bed and top quality linen. The bathroom was equally big with 2 showers, stand alone bath and twin sinks. The towels were sumptuous and so were the matching robes.
Everything about Hotel Bo was faultless and it was obvious that so much thought had been given to the modern but comfortable design.
Of particular note was Lum Restaurant where we chose to eat in throughout our 3 night stay. The Chef is so talented and menu choice varied. We particularly recommend the Passion Ceviche and Mushroom Carpaccio.
In our opinion even the most discerning traveller would find it impossible to find anything to fault about Hotel Bo - we loved every moment of our stay!
