Very interesting talk from our guide, I'll not spoil it except to add that the explanation about why everyone is clapping their hands is quite surprising.

it is amazing how this was built without machines, the astrology behind the making of this and how it echos when you clap but not yell. I would recommend going early right when they open by pm it is very hot and crowded. In the early hours you get good pictures, There are many other structures to see there have a nice lunch at the restaurant, food was good and the price not bad. Dress lightly and bring water, and wear good shoes and sunscreen. You can hire a guide but we did our tour on our own if we wanted to hear anything we could from other groups.

The visible part (pyramid) is very impressive, especially when you learn mathematical and astronomical facts behind it. And there is another pyramid inside and one more inside the second pyramid. This structure showcases Mayan sophisticated calendar system. Really a wonder for you to enjoy.

How did they do this? Both a calendar and sound machine that creates the same sound as the ancient bird they admire. I'm in awe.
Don't miss this "wonder of the world." Make sure to take a guided tour so you learn all the details.
The new road makes the trip there from Playa Del Carmen are Cancun much faster.
Wear great shoes, sunscreen and a hat. Hydrate! And Learn!

Undisputed the best conserved pre-Hispanic city in Yucatan, you can’t miss visiting Chichen Itza, it’s 2 hours’ drive from Playa del Carmen and 2 hours guided visit, it means that all in all, you have to plan a full day to visit the ruins.
The best option is to rent a car, drive the highway and once there book a tour guide just for you and your friends, car + petrol+ highway tool + park entrance + guide, for 2 persons will be around 250 USD. There are some restaurant options nearby if you eat there add another 50/70 USD (per 2 people).
