This is a great cultural must see sight if you are visiting the Yucatán. But do yourself a favor and get there at 8am while it’s infinitely less crowded and cooler outside. We had to go to two windows to pay two different entrance fees totaling about $15 pp. We then hired a guide, which set us back $60! I recommend having a guide, but honestly, the $60 was ridiculous. And he was only with us for 2 hours. So you’ll want to get yourself a a book guide to fill in the rest of the information that can’t possibly fit into a two hour tour.

After visiting another outstanding Mayan site Uxmal, I would have to say that Chichen Itza was a major disappointment. Ridiculous crowds, long line to get in, vendors literally everywhere, parking even hard to get and far away. If you feel the need to subject yourself to tour buses full of tourists getting selfies with El Castillo in the background then this is the perfect spot. If you want to see outstanding Mayan architecture make an extra effort to go to Uxmal or some of the many other great sites.

This is a beautiful place to visit if you want to learn about these amazing Mayan pyramids. I would recommend paying for a tourist guide, unless you take your own book or learn about the history of the place on your own. Take lots of water, sunscreen and if you don't mind an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun. It gets very hot and although there are shaded areas, most of the walking happens under the scorching sun. Beautiful and majestic!

If you ever have the opportunity this is a must see. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and considered one of the "Seven New Wonders of the World".
The main landmark is the temple pyramid (Pyramid of Kukulcan or El Castillo) but make sure you make time to check out the Great Ballcourt where Mesoamérican ballgame was played, the Trnpke of the Jaguars, El Caracol the circular temple, and the High Priests Grave which is a smaller version of El Castillo.
