Perhaps they were just having a bad day, but we certainly didn't get value for our 200 pesos. The coffee and pastries consisted of tiny dry brownie-like items, and the coffee was served with fake cream powder. The half-hour talk was excellent however, very good speaker and well-organized presentation. Then it was time for the tour. There were about 80-100 attendees, and were split into 2 groups of 40-50, very much too large to appreciate the 3 properties. The properties themselves were quite modest and the large crowd worked poorly. No small wonder then that the second group which headed out around 10:20 had enough of that and were done by 11:20. With a take by the library of 16000-20000 pesos, this was totally inadequate and we feel cheated.

Great way to check out other homes while visiting. Run by volunteers. Lovely folks to ask questions to get oriented while staying in merida.

80 people or so on our tour 1/26, but handled very well. We had a 30 minute introductory discussion about Merida history and growth and the homes we were about to visit. The hosts were very welcoming and cordial. Our group was split so the tour was manageable for us and the host homes. We learned a great deal and so happy our tour cost was donated to benefit the English Library. The guides and hosts were wonderful. The walking distance was easy and we had a few attendees with canes and a wheelchair. Everyone enjoyed. Coffee and pastries were provided before the tour.

Before the tour there is the opportunity to mingle with other English speaking tourists and Merida residents who can answer questions and share local information and contacts.
Our tour was also lead by Brent Marsh who gave the best history of Merida I have found.
The three houses & gardens we visited were all very different and all were introduced by the owner who had done the renovations. Very interesting and educational. I will definitely do it again on another visit to Merida because the homes change every week.

Our guide Brent was incredible. First he gave us the history of the Centro area and Merida...he was so clear and concise:-) I was fascinated by the 'Mosaico de Pasta' colored cement floor tiles. Each Tuesday morning 3 different houses are visited and shown by volunteer guides and home owners. It's a real look into the past and moving forward into present Yucatan design. I can't wait to see nest weeks homes and gardens
