The tour is different every week, three homes each time. Depending on the speaker, you learn different things about Merida each time you attend. Such fun to see homes from different eras and what has been done to them.

This is a wonderful activity put on by the Merida English library. What a great way to meet English speaking people living and visiting in Merida. The tour was awesome as you get to meet the owners of the houses and explore their house. The tour guide that we had who worked for Remixto was very knowledgable and friendly. The staff at the library are all ver friendly especially Suzanna who gave me and others tips on places to eat. If you are thinking about moving to Merida, the staff at this library are great people to get to know.

The Merida English Library hosts these walking tours on Tuesdays from November through March (or was it April). The tour begins with a history of Merida and how it has affected housing styles. It was very informative. Then, we walked to three houses within the Santiago/Santa Lucia neighborhoods. Of the 3 houses I saw, one was for sale and the other two were rental homes. Each week there are different homes on the tour. .

The homes were gorgeous although each was a different style. Behind the colonial facades, the owners have put their own design touch to the home. It provides good ideas on how to decorate a colonial home.

There were some young children on this tour although I don´t think they would find this a fun tour.

We went on this walking house tour which takes place on Tuesday mornings starting at the the English Library House at 9:00 a.m. There were over 60 people on the tour. We visited 4 homes-many of them up for sale. We really got a glimpse of the ex-pat community in Merida. Enjoyed the homes which were truly lovely and quite inexpensive. People were friendly and gave us lots of information on the life in Merida. Most enjoyable experience.

Perhaps they were just having a bad day, but we certainly didn't get value for our 200 pesos. The coffee and pastries consisted of tiny dry brownie-like items, and the coffee was served with fake cream powder. The half-hour talk was excellent however, very good speaker and well-organized presentation. Then it was time for the tour. There were about 80-100 attendees, and were split into 2 groups of 40-50, very much too large to appreciate the 3 properties. The properties themselves were quite modest and the large crowd worked poorly. No small wonder then that the second group which headed out around 10:20 had enough of that and were done by 11:20. With a take by the library of 16000-20000 pesos, this was totally inadequate and we feel cheated.
