Great day trip in to the caves. It is beautiful in cold water with a wet suit on. Stalagmites are amazing so enjoy half a day here and then head backlto the beach.

Recommended to us by local family, this place is a jewel. Not developed as a tourist park, it remains a natural underground river with gorgeous caves. Our tour guide Fernando was knowledgeable and very easy going, explaining everything as we went along. The only negative is the cost of the pictures. They do not allow cameras or phones so if you want pictures be ready to fork out $25 for one or $99 for 15-20 pics they take with the photographer that accompanies your tour. The price is ridiculous.

Our tour guide Jessy was great and very informative! We learned about the caves and it was absolutely beautiful. After the heat at Tulum, this was a great escape from the sun and the heat.

Rio Secreto was a great tour. My 18-year-old son and I did this as an excursion on our cruise in March. We took a ferry from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen. The ferry ride there was pretty smooth, but going back at the end was really rough. The ferry ride is 40 minutes. You then take a bus ride into the jungle to the caves. The roads are super rough, but our driver navigated them really well to avoid the worst parts. Once there you are given a locker to put your things. You are given water shoes which are not in great shape, but better than having to pack them, a wetsuit which was also not in the greatest of shape, but understandable because they are constantly being scraped on rocks, and a helmet with a light. You also have a choice of a walking stick which I recommend as you are on uneven ground, walking in water and up and down rocks in and out of the water all while trying not to touch anything. Don't bother with lotions or sprays, because you have to shower to get all that stuff off before they let you into the cave. You walk through the jungle about 10 minutes before you get to the caves. We stopped and had a Mayan blessing done for our group before we entered the cave. That was really special. There are a lot of steps going down into and getting out of the caves. Our tour guide Victor was very nice and made us all feel welcome. He led us expertly through the cave answering the many questions we had. After your finished, your group meets for a toast with a traditional Mayan liquor. You can then change into other clothes and go look at the pictures they take while you're in the cave. They are pretty pricey, so we just chose 1 as a souvenir. We then had a delicious feast where we sat with Victor and our group and asked additional questions and just talked about life and his job. The caves are absolutely amazing to see. This was our favorite excursion out of the 4 we did.

I loved the experience of walking, floating, swimming in a cave! The formations were beautiful, the water was crystal clear and cool. We had a terrific guide, Adrian, who taught us much, made us laugh, and showed us a wonderful time. I particularly liked it when we formed a floating circle and turned out all the lights! The tour was well-planned and well run. It was well worth the price.
