I can’t say enough good things about the ocean mayday royale!! My experience started before i arrived at the resort. Aranza went over an beyond to make certain our experience the best! She had our spa appointments arranged, chocolate covered strawberries in the room, and everything between!!! Upon arrival Antonio greeted us with a smile and mimosa! Our checkin experience was extra smooth and the staff chauffeured is to our rooms and helped take care of our luggage! Oli in the lobby bar was a joy and delight every time we went to order! The spa services were extra special as well! Unfortunately, i forgot their names however with a party of six that may cover a majority of the staff?! The food was always great and the staff was extra attentive! I can’t say enough good things about our experience here!!

I went here in April and it was absolutely amazing!! My sister, brother-in-law and boyfriend had an absolute blast! The staff (especially Luis), the food and the service was nothing short of the best!! I definitely recommend upgrading to the privilege package - it’s a little more but it is well worth every penny spent. You get exclusive beach spots with a private wait staff, top shelf liquor, and the privilege lounge which has the best food in my opinion.. We had so much fun! We would definitely go back and a big part of that is because of the very hardworking staff. Especially the entertainment crew. We became good friend with Luis during our stay! He is absolutely wonderful and we will continue to stay in touch.

My husband, sister, her boyfriend and I stayed at this resort in April. The hotel was gorgeous, the staff were amazing. The entertainment at the hotel was great. The pools are awesome. Luis works at the resort and was such a blast to party with every day! He made us feel like we were at home. He and his co-workers work SO hard every day making sure everyone is having a dream vacation. Highly recommend this place! Definitely spend the extra for privilege status! The private beach and cabanas and lounge make it so worth the money!

We had never been to Mexico before and did some research where we wanted to go like Coba, Chechen Itza,Tulum and so thought that Playa Del Carmen area was better than Cancun and we wanted all inclusive and found this place which at first we didn’t realise was adults only, but thought the way it was not a big hotel building but instead chalets (more like houses with 3 rooms ground floor and 3 rooms above) made it look really something different and probably quieter. We weren’t sure if we would prefer ground floor or upper floor but having had ground floor and seeing a coati and raccoon and deer walk past our patio window on a number occasions we really liked the ground floor. Our block was just by the path to the pools looking at the wedding gazebo (we did see 3 weddings while we were staying, two on the beach and one in the gazebo). It was a great location as not far to walk (2 mins) to the pools and then then beach or the Mexican restaurant and pool bar, the Italian restaurant was just a little further down and maybe a 6/7 min walk to the main complex where the entertainment was at night and buffet restaurant and al la cart restaurant and Oriental type restaurant.
We did try every restaurant, we only went to the Mexican during the day a couple of times for lunch, we had some food from the outdoor bit by the Mexican which served pizza, burgers and that sort of thing but served all day. The oriental you had to book and you needed to go early to book as the places went quick, we tried one day at the time it had said and all places gone so following night went 30 mins before time said and were first in queue to book a place. It is display cooking so you do not choose off a menu but it is very good and they put on a show for you and then you move as a group to a table for your desert which you can choose. The Italian and al la carte & I think the Mexican in the evening are all of menu. But the Mexican during the day is buffet style. Then there is the main buffet restaurant which serves the best breakfast choice I have ever seen in a hotel, from having omelettes freshly made with choice of your filling which you get yourself to pancakes to freshly made smoothies to fruit, cereal, cooked, bread, toast, cakes, meat & cheeses & various drinks including hot chocolate which I had every day & was delicious. They even have champagne on ice & vodka & orange juice & tomato juice, we did have a couple of days where we had Buck’s Fizz as part of our breakfast!
There was also a coffee shop which you could have cakes & coffee which was also very nice and snacks were served in the bar I think more or less throughout the night!
You had a minibar fridge in your room which had bottles of water, coke, Fanta, 7up, beer which was checked & replenished if you had drank anything & also fresh milk & a coffee making machine & coffee. If you take your own teabags or you could get some at breakfast just make tea instead. Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion & soap supplied. Couldn’t fault the cleanliness of the whole place, the grounds were immaculate and really lovely to walk around and see what animals you could see.
The entertainment during the day tended to be around the activity pool where the swim up bar is, if you want loungers by the pool you do need to get up EARLY although they will if room bring loungers for you if their aren’t any. You get pool towels and you get a card for these when check in. There are a lot of loungers on the beach and we did go on them on the first day but we are not keen to be on the beach. There is seaweed on the beach & they do work very hard every day to get rid of as much as they can but it nature and it is what is there & we went to the beach in playa del carmen & it is the same there!
We went with the entertainment guy on a lagoon tour which is a walk up the beach past the Italian restaurant (it is quite narrow here if the tide is in but there are sandbags to step on) and keep going till you come to the open air cenote which you can swim in but be warned it is very cold but a lovely walk. We did enquire about the jungle tour but they weren’t running that when we were there as were working on the pathway for it. There is a lady who goes around and you can get fishing tours, kayak tours & boat trips from her, there is also a chap that does tickets for cocoa bongo in playa del carmen so before you book through your rep maybe check the price with him because the tui rep told a couple after they paid her for the excursion & tickets for cocoa bongo that she had said includes drinks & transport etc that actually they best make sure they take enough money for a taxi back because often the bus can’t stop because the police move them on! A taxi from the hotel (which the hotel will arrange for you & your return time & pick up and you pay the hotel and are told your driver name and his taxi number during the day costs 660 Mexican peso (about £24) and that is return. So worth checking your prices before rushing with rep.
There is also a company in the foyer area - they are there all the time near enough that you can book excursions through which are we found cheaper than rep excursions but maybe don’t include quite as much, so it is up to you to decide exactly which is better for you. We did chicken itza through tui & thought it was a fabulous full day excursion with lunch & exclusive use of underground cenote and also booked with them for Coba, but booked through the tour company in foyer for Tulum which was tour company go natural explorers and thoroughly enjoyed this half day tour.
The entertainment at night was run on a weekly basis so if you missed it the first week because you needed an early night for excursion the next day then you could catch it the following week. The elves guy was fab, the fire ones, the chap with the horse, the acrobats, the billboard band, the Mexican singers, the casino night where you are given pretend money. Just brill. The entertainment during the day was good fun & if you didn’t want to take part then no pushed. The foam pool parties were great fun. The beer & grill festival was great, huge burgers & pizza & hotdogs.
Loved it here and our first experience of Mexico was fab and such friendly people and they genuinely seem happy not just pretending to smile for a tip or whatever but just genuinely lovely people.
The only thing we found was that these large hotels on the outskirts of playa del carmen they have all you want & lovely grounds (the drive up from road was about 3/4 mile, we walked it!) the only way you could get out anywhere was on an excursion or by taxi and to be fair playa del carmen has a lot of tourist shops & you get hassled to come & buy & by supposed waiters from your hotel when see wristband but not enough to want to spend another £25 going to a second time! I guess it depends what you want but we do like the freedom to get on a local bus to somewhere else if we choose but the road is effectively a motorway so it taxi only from hotel or hire car or excursion, that is our only thing but because we went on 3 excursions and a trip into playa del carmen and on walks around grounds and on the beach we broke it up for two weeks.
But hope the management read this and pass on praise to every single member of their staff because not matter who they were whether gardeners, maintenance men, men cleaning the beach, waiters, kitchen staff walking to work, pool guys, entertainment staff, cleaners, reception people, ones in shop, even the taxi guy were always so friendly and it made for a very enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: We loved our location in block near pool
