“Great place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2012

This was a great place. Very low key, but nice. It had two pools with swim-up bars, nice places to eat and a decent beach.

Room Tip: You can bring your own drinks to the pool instead of buying them at the bar. They don't care.

Accomadations to the staff to the attractions make this a 5 star experience. The fact that there is something for everyone makes this a destination where you can't go wrong. We love it here so much that we will be coming back yearly for several years to get everything we want to do off of our bucket list. Thank you so much to The Royal Resorts and Thomas Moore travel for making our vacation one to remember.

Beautiful, well cared for resort. The rooms have everything you need. Pools are clean and just the right temperature. Beach is large and most of it is swimmable. No complaints about keeping busy during the day but at night. . .the minute the sun goes down it is like a ghost town. Restaurants are less than half full, the one bar that stays open until 10 pm never has more than 2 or 3 people at it, we were the only people who used the hot tub at night. So, you have to go into town if you want even a little night life. This is a good resort for families or couples who want to be in bed by 10 pm.

Room Tip: It was wonderful staying on the ground floor. We had a large patio to relax on and were just steps...

Royal Haciendas is one of the best beach resorts I've experienced. The service is 5 stars, the staff couldn't be any friendlier, the villas are high end, the restaurants are wonderful, the gym is among best hotel gyms and the spa is world class. Here's the issue....some of the other guests. Because this is a timeshare type resort, many other guests are owners or "members" and feel that they own the place. In a sense they do, but if they wanted that type of experience, they should have bought their own vacation home, and not simply a fraction of one. I couldn't help but notice how many guests, especially the 60+ crowd, exhibited the "it's all about me" attitude. They would stake territory at the beach at 6am, then leave for 4 or 5 hours, despite the rule that this is not allowed for more than one hour. They would insist on bringing their small children into the whirlpools although 1) it's a health hazard to small children; and 2) it's against the resort's rules. Again, all about them. Guests would complain to the gym attendant that he was late in opening the gym at 7am, although he was in fact on time and in many cases, early. And after all, it's a vacation - lighten up!! Lots of very self-centered, typical baby boomer entitlement mentality. Another experience that was astounding...the resort offers a lovely complimentary coffee service in the lobby. It's nothing major, regular and decaf coffee, sweeteners, cream, cups, etc. Mostly for those waiting for an early morning tour or departure to the airport. While waiting to get a cup myself one morning, the woman in front of me (once again in the 60+ crowd) brought her in-room coffee maker carafe and filled it, leaving the pot completely empty, nothing for me or anyone else. And she thought nothing of it. Now there are at least 2 coffee makers in every villa and coffee can be purchased at a very reasonable price in the little market near the lobby, not to mention it can be purchased from the restaurants. Either out of cheapness or laziness, she chose to fill an entire carafe of "complimentary" coffee, once again exhibiting the "all about me" behavior. I would be concerned if I owned a week or more at this resort, that these would be the guests I may end up sharing the resort with for the next 40 to 50 years. No thank you!! Again, this should not reflect on the management of the resort - they are just stuck with such selfish people as guests and unfortunately, when they try to correct such problems, they get a backlash. It's unfortunate but Royal Haciendas is a wonderful five star resort.

My husband and I stayed at the Royal Haciendas for the first time 1/28/12-2/4/12. This is a timeshare property for those that aren't aware. We own a week at the Royal Sands in Cancun but had only visited for the day prior to this stay. We rented our 1 bedroom suite, master bedroom, kitchen/living room, directly from an owner via TUG-2. The resort is spacious but very easy to navigate. We loved the huge bedroom, bathroom, and deck with a jacuzzi. The weather was a little rainy so we spent more time in our unit than we planned so it was great to have the extra space. Check in was a breeze but we had an evening flight and came in after the rush. Everything was spotlessly clean and you constantly see staff cleaning outside. We purchased staples for breakfast to eat in our room at the onsite market. Prices are a little high but it's very convenient. There were many senior adults vacationing with their adult children and grandchildren. Some couples in the 40-50 age range. Overall, quieter than what we see in Cancun during our summer stays. Happy hour is held daily from 3-6pm at the pool bars. Drinks and beer are half price and free chips and salsa but make sure to get the menu to see what drinks are included. We ordered pizza twice in our room on rainy evenings when we didn't feel like venturing out and it was fast and hot. We ate a number of times at the pool grill and liked all the food we tried. We ate at La Palapa del Sol, largest restaurant on property, twice for dinner and lunch once for breakfast buffet. Service was great at every meal. Servers very personable. The breakfast buffet was priced well but could use a little better variety of foods. Lunch has a daily special that included salad bar, soup and desserts or you could order off the menu. This was a good value if you liked the entree special. Dinner had a themed buffet or again order off the menu. We aren't big buffet people so we ordered off the menu twice and food was good but basic. The resort offers free shuttles into Playa del Carmen but they fill up quickly so we only managed to use it once when someone cancelled. A round trip cab trip cost around $25 so we only ate out off property twice due to the cost and the weather not being great. The beach is nice and walkable in either direction. This isn't a great swimming beach but wasn't a big factor for us in January. People were saving beach palapas and lounge chairs at the pool but we still managed to find them most times without doing the saving game ourselves. Wifi is available but was really slow in our villa. We had better luck at the pool with our IPhones so that was fine with us. We did meet with a timeshare rep to see what was available but weren't pressured to do so. We did not buy and there were no hard feelings on either side. We didn't use the on resort travel services for any excursions because it was easy to use public transportation to get to whatever sites we wanted to see. I would definitely return to this resort in the future. I think our 19 & 21 y/o sons would prefer Cancun to this resort but for a quiet adult trip we loved it.
