We arrived at Posada Yum Kin after a long travel day and felt immediately relaxed and soothed by this place. It really is like an oasis inside those doors. From the beautifully landscaped courtyard to the flawless and tastefully decorated room we were very pleased with our choice.

We had decided to tweak our budget a little so that we could afford to stay two entire weeks in Tulum. PYK seemed like the perfect solution so we ended up staying there the first week and on the beach the second week to get the best of both worlds. We got the upstairs studio apartment #8 and it was perfect. When you come in the front door you walk in to a cute little kitchen area with a sink, 2 burner cooktop, small fridge and table for four. To the back of that and to your right is a nice full bathroom with a shower and decent sized vanity. To left and back of the room is a very comfy king bed with very nice pillows. At the foot of the bed there is a door leading out to a cute little balcony with 2 chairs and small table overlooking the gorgeous courtyard, Two powerful ceiling fans keep the room very cool and we never even considered turning on the a/c. We could have easily stayed here long-term quite comfortably. We were able to make several meals here (check out the Super San Francisco and the Pool store on Satelite - one block off of Tulum Ave) very cheaply and the rate that we paid was a great deal.

Concerning the distance to town: We did have a car and drove in to town for the most part. We did decide to walk it the last night and it was no big deal AT ALL. We timed ourselves and figured that it was about a ten minute walk from PYK to Tulum Avenue - about 8 blocks or so. Not a problem unless you are in a huge hurry or very out of shape.

It would be very difficult to identify any negatives about this place. We thought it was very interesting to be in a "real" Mexican neighborhood but that may not be for everyone. That being said you really do feel completely separate from all of that though you are very aware that is around you. It was not only quiet and peaceful but felt completely safe. We also were slightly dissapointed when we found out after checking in that no one there spoke any English at all since our Spanish is not so great. Apparently the owner Dan and his wife were both in the states. Our host, Alfredo was perfectly charming and a very sweet man so we were fine despite the language barrier. We also don't recommend the free coffee each morning (Nescafe) but instead bought our own coffee and used the coffemaker in our room.

Overall we absolutely loved this place and would (and probably will) definitely stay here again!

My husband and I have been to Posada Yum Kin twice and expect to return next year. It is a place that we hold dear to our hearts because of its quiet setting, gorgeous interior, and the wonderful hospitality of those who manage it. I recommend it highly.

It's off the beaten path, but the upside is that you get away from town noise. We enjoyed the tranquility of our room as well as the greenery of the courtyard that concealed our balcony. The kitchen here was equipped with everything we needed to cook healthy meals elegantly--rare to find in the Tulum area at this price. The housekeeper was a joy to run into. The fellow who received us was very kind. There's something magical about this place. I wasn't sure how the neighbors felt about the tourist traffic (meaning us) coming into the locals' residential area, but I felt that we were getting a better picture of Mexican life in Tulum by trekking away from and staying a few blocks from Main Street. Best part may have been the rooftop patio where I did morning yoga in solitude each daybreak. Hard to complain about much here.

We were looking for adventure and definitely found it at Posada Yum Kin, Tulum! We rented a car in Cancun from American Rentals without a hitch and with the directions from Dan, drove straight to home away from home. We were speechless upon seeing our room, wow, we loved it. We did most of our own cooking in the room. The restaurant prices in town were similar to home, so we took a look around for the butcher, produce stands and grocery stores. Full immersion in the culture of the locals was exactly what we were looking for.
Our location was perfect, not too close to town, but close enough to walk. Never once felt unsafe about walking home in the dark. Our rental car easily took us to 4 Mayan ruins, a few cenotes and lots of free things to do. The roads were better than home. The birds were a very nice touch in the morning, and the roosters too! Absolutely loved everything about it!

The only negative thing I can think of is that it's not on the beach, but that should in no way be a deterrent from staying here! Because of it's location it's cheaper, closer to town, and very quiet. The rooms are large, bright and airy with everything you need like a mini fridge, bottled water, coconut and chocolate toiletries, and a mini stove and cook/serveware should you choose to dine in. The courtyard is lush and magical and every bit as lovely as the much more expensive hotels on the beach. We rented a car, which was key for getting to a from the beach for us, though the hotel also rents great cruiser bikes for super cheap and I understand taxis are quite affordable. We mostly drove to the main drag of Tulum, though you could also walk it in about 15 minutes. Charlie's is our favorite restaurant because of it's laid back outdoor style, plus it's affordable and offers different authentic cultural entertainment many night including music, dancing, and even a circus troupe! Even though we didn't stay on the beach because the beach in Mexico is public you can still take advantage of the amenities at many beachfront hotels. Ana y Jose's was a favorite for their shower and bathroom facilities, but we found that we could order some food or even just a drink at most of the hotels and spend the day on their beach beds taking advantage of waiter service to keep the cold drinks coming. Don't miss pasta dinner at Posada Margherita on the beach of Mezzanine for fancy Thai food! Easy for access to Coba, cenotes and of course Tulum Ruins.
