We swam at the beach and ate lunch at ZAMAS after riding bikes out from Tulum Town. Food was excellent and the staff was friendly. Reasonably priced.

We were there for dinner, the friday night before NYE. We had a reservation, and were seated on the back outdoor patio, the view was amazing! It was cool that night, due to rains that day, however, that view was totally worth the cooler weather. I had heard this was a "happening" spot. However, the crowd was very small. The band, which was good, was just getting started when we were leaving, so maybe the crowd picked up after we left. The menu was surprisingly small. We started with a roasted vegetable dish, which was delectable and guacamole, which was solid. The drinks we tried were interesting, but none in particular that I would recommend. When we went to order dinner, they were out of almost every fish dish on the menu! We finally gave up and left, going elsewhere to finish dinner, as we did not come to Mexico for beef, lol. The view was fantastic, and based on that and reputation, I would probably give this place another shot the next time I am in Tulum.

So many restaurant choices in Tulum. We tried many and enjoyed them all. However, it speaks volumes that the one restaurant we returned to for a second visit, was Zamas. We loved the simplicity, charm, authenticity, and view at Zamas. The food was heavenly. The cocktails were sheer delight. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious (we were in flip flops). The unobstructed view of the ocean and beach was like no other in Tulum. You can watch children playing, people fishing, and pelicans attacking the ocean for fish like torpedoes. The staff is easygoing and friendly. I was also impressed by the selection in their fully stocked bar. I was really impressed when at about 11:00am, I saw a pair of Zamas fisherman dock their little fishing boat in front of the restaurant, and they carried an ice chest (filled with freshly caught red snapper and other fish packed on ice) directly to the kitchen. Yes, they fished all morning and hauled their catch directly into the kitchen!! It doesn't get any better than this. The freshest fish I've ever seen at a restaurant. You will love it here.

We went to this place because of the good reviews for the ceviche, it was good but maybe not the best I’ve had. The place has a cozy atmosphere and beautiful candles. It is cozy and trendy at the same time. Try the passion fruit mojito, it was super!

We ate breakfast at Zamas twice during our stay in Tulum. It was perfect before heading out for our scuba dive with Mexidivers across the street. The staff was friendly and the food was fresh.
