This review would have been far less than favourable if we had not been able to move to one of the rooms nearer the beach. On arrival we were shown to a room that was very close to the very noisy building work next door. Obviously unhappy about paying full whack for this with no mention of discount, we started looking around for another place. The concierge knew we were unhappy but failed to inform us that there was an empty room near the beach which was quieter! We found this out by chance while searching on a booking website. The hotel also has a noisy generator for electricity generation. Once we moved things were better. The rooms are big. Lovely to hear the ocean at night. It gets very warm and you have to accept this as there is no a/c for ecological reasons which is right. Despite others on this site having complained about the breakfast I find that unfair. It's very good. Fresh fruit, bread, spreads, juice, coffee or tea brought to your veranda. What more do people want? Word of warning: There is a lot of gold rush mentality development going on towards the southern end of Tulum and it is high density. Choose your accommodation with care as you may be slap bang next to a building site. When we went for a walk along the beach we were surprised to see that the beaches towards the ruins end are less built up with natural vegetation perhaps because they are protected being part of the biosphere reserve. If I was to go back I'd book somewhere near the public beach which was beautiful, spacious and well maintained.

Posada LaMar is not a large property but is grand in it's presentation. The styling and appointments are wonderful. Breakfast brought to your room each morning with fresh juice and coffee is a wonderful treat. The beach is lovely and the location great.

Room Tip: the rooms closer to the beach have views of the water but it really doesn't matter all is good

Posada Lamar is a quiet, secluded, small property featuring only a few rooms. This is such a nice welcome from some of the larger, scenier spots on Tulum.

Some very minor investments would make this place more of a gem: 1. valet parking (the tiny lot means that there isn't enough room for all cars to enter and exit. If they had someone working the cars, guests wouldn't all have to coordinate just to let each other out). 2. Shampoo, conditioner, soap.

We stayed here for 3 nights in September and had a great time. Rooms were very tastefully appointed and breakfast was good, with lots of fresh seasonal fruits. The entire property was well maintained and clean. Ioana was very helpful, gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants. Property is right next to the ocean and somewhat private. Restaurants are just walking distance.
We will be staying here next time as well.

Room Tip: rooms next to the ocean, facing it.

My wife and I visited Tulum over two years ago, staying for two weeks at three different places, each one unique and beautiful in its own way. We stayed at Posada Lamar during the middle of our trip and absolutely loved every moment. The cabana was simple, imaginatively built and simply perfect for us. Private but also open: on the beachfront so we got the breeze and heard the waves rolling. We could be intimate indoors, as well as on the porch, just the two of us, but the common space was great for mixing with others when we felt inclined. The breakfasts were delicious and of course having them brought to our cabana only made them better. The staff was remarkably kind and friendly. Proximity to other restaurants was ideal, too. We would stay again without hesitation. We recommend Posada Lamar, especially during the quieter months, since it's located in a busier part of the beach -- if you're hoping for more of a laid back experience but with great access to shops, restaurants and bars.
