Centauro street in Tulum is filled with restaurants and bars and is easily accessible as it begins at the Avenida Tulum (main street). We ventured into the area looking for a place for breakfast when we noticed El Milagrito was offering Motulenos which is a dish originated in the Yucatan. The traditional way to serve is to top with ham and peas and this place was spot on! We also enjoyed a Bloody Maria which is made with Mezcal in place of vodka. The smokiness of the Mezcal truly makes this a great drink which I think I like better than the traditional because of that added flavor. The ladies bathroom is decorated with mermaids and we noticed cases of Modelo Negro which we had been unable to find at other local restaurants so decided to return for a cold one after enjoying a massage at Shantala Spa on Avenida. We then invited the guys to join us for happy hour and we all shared an order of coconut shrimp tacos which were very tasty and just the right amount to carry us through the cocktails. This is a Mezcal bar as is quite obvious with the bottles lined up on the bar. We noticed one brand, Bruxo, numbered from 'no number' to 5 with each being a different style of Mezcal. So a tasting was in order! Six shot glasses were lined up by our waitress and filled to the brim! She also brought us 2 sides of orange slices accompanied with agave worm salt and fried grasshoppers! Never having had either of these 2 items, we tasted each and were very pleasantly surprised at how flavorful they are! We started with one passing it around for all to get a taste and determine which one we liked best.
This place did not disappoint in service, quality, attentiveness as well as accommodating our requests. Be sure to check out this place!!!
