We loved our visit to this beautiful church, called the Sistine Chapel of Mexico. It is lovely. Near it are a couple of great places to eat, a folk art gallery (by appointment only) and also a hot springs grotto. Make a day of it. But don't miss this if you are in San Miguel.

A must see if you visit San Miguel. The town is charming, authentic, the food is local and delicious, the church is full of details and wonderful murals. Don´t miss it!

Amazing church. Well worth a visit. The paintings in the church are just astounding. The town is tiny and there is not much else to do there other than visit the very interesting collection of arts and crafts at Meyer Schecter's Gallery nearby.

the portrayal of Christ dying on the cross in statues that are life size was very moving and unusual. I have seen the 14 stations all over the world, but never as beautiful and moving as these. I highly recommend it but encourage a tour guide if you can find one.

The Santuary of Atontonilco is such a beautiful church in a dusty, quiet little town. It really feels like Mexico to be there. The murals are amazing. If you go mid-week, you'll avoid the Saturday/Sunday crowds. But if you go Saturday, there is a street market nearby where you can purchase food, curios, and religious items. Overall, a lovely experience.
