We actually hotwired our hotel to cabo, and we got this hotel...the description is 4.5 stars in the Cabo San Lucas. Most likely you'll get this hotel. It was a fabulous deal and the hotel way exceeded our expectations. all rooms have an ocean view and this hotel is remotely located. It was perfect for some relaxation. Most of the property is made up of time shares, and only three buildings are part of the hotel. The food is just ok...we tried the bistro, and La Nao. The breakfast is the best, try the mexican chorizo, but dinners were not so stellar. The pools are all very nice, but the main pool is fabulous. it was not crowded at all and the pool service, although not fast, was not terrible either. the rooms are a nice size, the shower is exceptional. the balcony is also a nice touch as well. all in all, a very pleasant stay.

We just returned from a 6 day stay at Sunset Beach. Overall it was a great experience. The rooms are clean, and tastefully decorated, with terraces that have a lovely ocean view. The pool was very nice, the beach is beautiful (but you can't swim in the ocean here) and the restaurants were all good and reasonably priced for a resort. The staff was amazingly friendly and accommodating. The resort is built into the hillside so walking around is up and down the hills, but they will pick you up in golfcarts if you don't want to walk. We were a couple in our 20s so we didn't find the golfcarts necessary most of the time. The spa is beautiful and brand new. The gym is also great. We spent one day at the Pueblo Rose resort in downtown Cabo (to swim in the ocean) and were happy to return to the quiet relaxation of Sunset Beach. We were not bothered by the timeshare salespeople because we are under 30 and thus couldn't attend the sales presentation. Overall this is a very nice resort. It's not a Ritz, but you don't pay Ritz prices so for what you get, it's a great deal and a very nice vacation. The crowd was a bit on the older side, so it's probably not ideal for a group of young, single friends, but for couples it's perfect.

My wife and I stayed at the Pueblo Bonito Sunset beach from 1-21-06 to 1-26-06. I booked this trip after hours (days) of research and reading trip reports. We decided on the PBSB based on reviews, location, price and pictures. Here goes:

Check-in was a breeze. We arrived around 3:30 and were the only ones checking in. We got upgraded from a JR Suite to a JR Suite with a small kitchen. Not a huge deal but nice to have the fridge. After check-in, we were asked to visit the “Welcome Desk”. Having read enough reviews, we politely declined. As we walked past the desk, the woman called after us to have a seat. We politely said “No thanks”. She asked our name…my wife answered “Smith”. (It’s not.) After taking the elevator down to the cart area, we waited maybe 2 minutes for a cart. While admiring the incredible view, as if on cue, a whale jumped out of the ocean not 100 yards from shore. Nice start!

Our room was great. Building 28, number 2821 on the 2nd floor, on the end of the bldg. Again, incredible view, nice décor, nice balcony. Four star. We pulled our suits out of our luggage and headed to the upper pool. The water is perfect! Cool enough to feel good but warm enough to linger in. Drinks followed. It was happy hour…2X1…ahhhh.

Here’s a break down of our thoughts:

Property:

Amazing in every way. Beautifully maintained, landscaped and laid out. There must be a landscaper for every bush. View from virtually every spot on the grounds. Located high above the beach, it is stunning from above and below.

Pools:

Perfect. Big, roomy, lots of chairs, umbrellas. We never had a problem finding a spot at the main pool. And I do think the hotel was full or darn near it. The new pool on the left as you face the ocean has the best view but it also has the kids slide, etc. The one on the upper right is a little more fun (rowdy). Pool service was great. Friendly, fast and professional. The Bloody Marys are an awesome way to start the day. Try the Sunset Special…or two. Try the Rum Punch.

Food:

Here’s where there could be improvement. We ate at Frida! on Saturday night. First Class service and food. Wine is ridiculously priced. A bottle that we’d pay around $40 in a restaurant here in Chicago went for $82 there. The Sunday Brunch is not so great. It’s a beautiful setting, but so-so food. The Bistro is a less expensive option but, again, not great. Pool side food is fine. The Quesadillas are very good as is the Guacamole. The service at all restaurants was very good and matched the price point.

Bars:

The Lobby Bar has a beautiful veranda overlooking the grounds and ocean. Great place to watch the spectacular sunsets. Good selection of spirits but bad selection of wines by the glass. Beringer is basically what they have. The Cigar Bar is very comfortable and is served by the Lobby Bar so same selections. Down at the main pool is the Manila Bar. Had drinks there one night and its fine. Same selections as the Lobby Bar.

Staff:

I can’t say enough about the great staff. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. You’ll be greeted by everyone as you walk the grounds. The staff seems like they are having a good time even when they don’t know you’re watching them. We tipped the maids daily and got the requisite towel swans, etc.

Carts:

We didn’t find these a problem at all. We never waited more than a minute or two except one afternoon at the main pool when they were experiencing a heavy check-in crowd. We walked about 40% of the time and if you find the “shortcuts” it’s not bad at all. No problem with cart noise at night.

Timeshare:

After the initial request to visit the welcome desk we did receive a phone call in the room the next morning around 10:30. I politely declined. Once during dinner at the Bistro a representative approached our table and we shooed him away quickly. Once while walking across the pool bridge, we were asked if we had attended the hospitality breakfast, we said we were not interested. That’s it. Nothing pushy.

Overall thoughts:

We loved it here. It had everything we were looking for. Beauty, quiet, lush grounds, etc. A few things you should know. This property attracts an older crowd. Average age in my opinion was around 50. That didn’t bother us (we’re 40’s) but if you are in your 20’s or early thirties keep that in mind. There are A LOT of people in their 60’s and up.

This place sells timeshares. Be prepared. If the mere act of someone asking you to attend a breakfast will put a crimp in your day, you may be best served elsewhere. It’s really not hard to politely say “No thank you”.

You can’t swim on the beach. No biggie to us. We did lie on the beach one day and the breeze is wonderful. Plus, you can get drink service there…

Things are expensive here. Aside from the wine, it’s no different than other higher end resorts.

Cabs are usually $10 to $12 bucks into town depending on the drop-off point. About the same amount back “home”. We didn’t ask the fare each time before we got into the cab and the fare was always the same. I think that “always ask the fare before getting in a cab” fear is unfounded. We never used the free shuttle because we didn’t want to schedule it or go at a fixed time or go to the Rose.

The guests here were some of the friendliest of any resort we’ve ever stayed. Met several very nice folks and spent a few evenings and many drinks with a great couple from Denver. (Hey, J & C!)

We’d stay here again in a heartbeat.

My husband and I just returned from a stay at the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach resort. We are timeshare owners of a Junior Suite and this was our first stay. The accommodations were exceptional with a very comfortable king-size bed and very efficient kitchenette. Our room was right on the beach which was the perfect location for us. We were close to the largest pool and the La Nao Restaurant. We had no issues with the golf carts at all as read in previous reviews. They were always available and the drivers were very pleasant each time we used them. The gym facilities were top notch and although we did not use the spa, I toured it and found it very classy. The food was excellent although pricey and the margaritas are the strongest we've ever had so beware of drinking more than one at a time! We found the downsides to be the food prices and the lack of a good wine selection which was also very expensive. My husband did not like the fact that they do not yet have high speed internet access in the rooms yet and the drugstore pricing for internet access is $8 per half hour. The resort is secluded but that was okay and a cab ride with tip is $12 into town. They do offer a free shuttle daily to the sister property which is convenient. All in all, we enjoyed the facility but probably won't return because we prefer to travel to new places. It's a very lovely resort with top ameneties so if you want a luxury stay overlooking the Pacific ocean, this should be just right for you!

Whenever traveling we have found this website to be a great resource tool. I have read lots of pros and cons to various places we've stayed and frankly I have a hard time negotiating negative postings. We have come to the realization that some folks must be too fussy or just hard to please. I, like a prior post, do not understand the negative feed back to Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach. First of all it is NOT a Hotel but a Resort made up of various Condos’. It has been a week since we've returned and we can't stop talking about it. What a superb place!!!! Overall we had a wonderful and magnificent experience. The Resort, staff, and atmosphere were all delightful. Our only negative was one cart driver but [psssst] that was it. First of all it is secluded and not near or even like the other resorts in Cabo. It is tucked away in a tranquil and peaceful hillside setting on the Pacific side with endless views of the ocean. It's only a short 5 [plus] minute drive to the downtown area. For those of you who are looking to swim in the Ocean, you can take the shuttle and use the facilities at the PB-Blanco or PB-Rose'. The ocean currents are too strong in front of this Resort for swimming. We had a few meals at the Resort and each time the food was magnificent. The service was always outstanding and the staff was EXTREMELY COURTEOUS. Sunday Brunch was a luxurious array of everything you could imagine. The Spa was HEAVENLY!!! I must also say that everyone speaks impeccable English. Go do the Timeshare Presentation, it is worth the perks and even though we didn't buy, we never felt pressured. I hope this posting helped and everyone in our group felt Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach was a 10.
