We were so excited for this excursion but in the end, we were disappointed with the treatment the dolphins received and the outrageous prices for the pictures to remember this by.
We did the dolphin swim with a family of 4 – myself, my husband, our 8-year-old, and a 17-year-old. Everyone was very excited, especially our youngest as she loves dolphins and has always wanted to touch one. The demonstration was interesting and the time spent with the dolphin was fun, but our dolphin, Ukalai, was injured and actively bleeding. We first noticed all of the rake marks on her body, but when we went to take pictures, my husband pointed out a large chunk was missing out of her dorsal fin! He refused to do the dolphin ride because of her injury, and when pointed out to the trainer, he said it was due to the fact that she came down on the cement stair while doing a jump. No way is that what happened and the fact that they continued to work this inured dolphin really bothered us, including my children who also modified their choices of rides with the dolphin based solely on not wanting to hurt it more by putting their hands on the injured fin. Our trainer even went out of his way to say “dorsal” to the photographer, who then changed his angle so the injury was not visible in pictures. (I do have one picture of the injury I will upload).
After the interactions were over, we suffered a fair amount of sticker shock when we went to see the photos and were told that it would be a minimum of $200 for all the pictures! Since the tickets were already $150/each, this seemed very excessive to me, but knowing how much my children wanted to remember this, I went ahead and paid. I then had to wait half an hour for them to put all of the files on a flash drive. Overall this was a disappointing experience, and my kids were talking most about the injury to the dolphin rather than the fun we had. Oh, and as we were leaving the pool, we saw one dolphin, alone, in the back that was completely depressed, sitting at the edge of the pool with its head on the cement starting out at the other dolphins and people. Please consider spending your money elsewhere, somewhere that the dolphins are actually well cared for!

Dear Amanda J,

Thank you for your review! We are happy to hear you enjoyed your time with the dolphins in Cabo San Lucas!

We are glad that you are as passionate about Animal Welfare as we are! Our staff have over 400 years of accumulated experience. We have some of the world's best Veterinarians, Biologists and Scientists working on our team to ensure the highest levels of care and welfare for the animals in our family.

As Javier explained during your experience, the marks on the dolphin’s skin are known as ‘rake marks’. These are found on all cetaceans, both in the wild and under human care, and are a result of social interactions between individuals. We monitor these marks on a daily basis using a software system which helps us measure appropriate levels of interaction. I can assure you that at Cabo Dolphins we are well within normal limits.

We would love to extend an invitation to you to come and tour our dolphin facilities and to have the opportunity to ask our experts the questions you may have. Feel free to reach out with any further questions at info@cabo-adventures.com

Aliza & Aqua were a great team. Had so much fun checking this off the bucket list. Everyone was great there.

Like most have stated, however, the cost of the photos at the end was high, and they should have included a couple with your reservation amount as it's a lot to add on after the fact. That is the reason for not giving this tour 5 stars.

Great people and dolphins. Eric & Tlatoani were wonderful and spent a decent amount of time with each person in our party.

We did the "swim with the dolphins" experience with Ivan (trainer) and Ka-hal (dolphin). Ivan was great: lots of fun, very kind, and very encouraging with kids that were shy. When our son didn't want to ride on the dolphin, Ivan came up with a few other activities he could do with Ka-hal instead, so he still got to have a full experience.

The photographer and videographer were both great as well, and the folks in the photo shop were very helpful when it came time for us to choose our picture package.

All in all, we had a great time.

Thank Mark K
