While the service at this resort wasn't superb, it was perfect for our little family. The beach had seaweed every day, the water was murky and not that great, but the pools and he splash pads were awesome. The lifeguards are a little too eager to blow whistles at parents assisting their small children, but I understand it's better to be safe than sorry.
There's a bowling alley, a very small carousel and a little market on-site.
The buffets were good - enough variety of food for the kids to have healthy food choices and the staff was amazing at accommodating food allergies.
We would have loved to eaten at the a la carters restaurants more, but everything was booked before we even got there.

We will go again to this hotel, but this time we will get a room closer to the pools because the building we were in was the very last possible building and it was easily a 15-20 min walk to get anywhere, which is exhausting with little kids.

This was our 1st family vacation with our 1 y.o. son so we very a little on edge when we arrived after our 5.5 hours flight. The staff was very kind and helpful. We originally requested king size bed with a baby crib but then when we changed our mind to 2 queen beds and then again to king size bed. They accommodated our requests without any complication. At the same time, we were greeted by concierge Denis who provided us with all restaurant reservations so we don't have to worry about it at all. Denis made our stay wonderful and unforgettable. This was our anniversary vacation so one day Denis arranged our bed with rose pedals and champagne. That was a great touch. The food was really, each night they had a different food cuisine which was very nice. There are many things for the kids to do, kids club house, swings, kid friendly pools, dolphinarium and more. The property is huge, it consists of 5 hotels and you can use pretty much all hotels amenities except for food at the Palace. The beach is wide and has volleyball court. The water is shallow so you can walk 50 yards or so into the sea. The bottom line we loved it. Once again special thanks to all hotel staff and especially concierge Denis for making our stay unforgettable. Can't wait to come back to this place again

My husband and i went to Mexico with 8 friends. Age ranging from 23 to 65. My husband and I have been to Cancun' the Mayan Riviera, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo multiple times but this was the best! Food was great at the specialty restaurants and the buffet. Each time we saw staff, they were friendly and helpful! The Santa February steak house was especially good. The beach was calm and spectacular. Lots of fish and shade close to the water. Lunch at the beach side buffet and drinks were just a few steps away. No need to take beach towels with you plenty are available. Our friends took the luxury sailing and snorkeling trip on a catamaran. Had a wonderful time and got to paddle board as well

This was our 4th vacation in Mexico, first time in Barcelo Maya. We stayed 5 nights at the resort. FLIGHT: our departure was at 7am from JFK with no delays with JetBlue. Our package includes transfers from and to the airport. ROOM: We arrived at the resort around 11:30am and were provided with a room at the Coba section, located at the Beach side of Barcelo Maya. The room was standard and appeared to be outdated. We returned to the front desk and I nicely asked if we can be given a nicer room. The request was granted and we were transferred to a premium level room at the Tulum section, on the 3rd floor. The second room was way nicer and bigger. It featured a jacuzzi on the balcony as well.
Our room was clean and modern. The resort knew that my husband and I came to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary but no welcome gift or any towel art was present at the room (not a big deal). However, on day #5 a pleasant surprise awaited us: our balcony and jacuzzi was decorated by red rose petals and warm water in the jacuzzi with a chilled champagne bottle. We used the room cleaning service and no issues there.
FOOD: to be honest, I was a little disappointed with the verity of food at the buffets. The lines at the omelette stations were very long. The food appeared to be catered more to the customers that come from Central America/ Latino countries, foods that we are not accustomed to eat. We were given a complimentary dinner reservation for each night at different speciality restaurants: Spanish, Japanese, steak house and Brazilian(palace section, usually costs $20 per person extra). The food was amazing at the specialty restaurants, we loved the Brazilian and Spanish the most. Many people recommend the French restaurant as well. The drinks at the pool bar were horrible. They use their local brands and unless you have the VIP or paid for premium liquor, you will be given the local stuff. The drinks were tasteless, water downed.
SERVICE: we were treated very well by the customer service rap mr. Denys who greeted us immediately upon our arrival and always checked in with us to make sure we were ok and satisfied. The other front desk personnel and guest service personnel appeared to be very cold and unfriendly. No smile or even a hello. I went to ask a question about entertainment schedule and was given so much attitude for it. If the hotel would have printed and placed the schedule upfront or by the schedule of other day activities, I wouldn't be asking for it. I did notice the print out at the colonial section of the resort but it's absent at the beach/ Carib section. Also, we noticed that all personal prefers to speak only Spanish, even when told that we do not speak Spanish. Don't know what that's all about. The waiters at the buffets and restaurants are fast and friendly and we always left tips.
ENTERTAINMENT: the best word to describe it is- non existent. Like I said in the beginning, this is our 4th visit to Mexico and the entertainment crew was always present and running around the resort engaging people in different activities. I didn't see even one crew member until day #5. The night entertainment (shows) was alright.
***please take not that even though the hotel is all inclusive, not everything on it is included. The pirate island and the surf section is extra pay- $20 per person per day. Kids under 6 free. The bawling is NOT free. The mini gulf is NOT free***. It's of course a personal choice, but when I travel and pay over 3K for a vacation I don't want to come to a resort and worry about paying extra everywhere I turn, especially when traveling with children.
POOLS AND BEACH: the beach is the best on the Beach section of the resort. The water is clear and warm. It was beautiful. No rocks. We mostly stayed at the beach but used the pool at the Beach section and the adult pool at the Beach section. Both were very nice and clean. Plenty of empty chairs by both pools and the beach.
SPA: my husband and I used the spa. He had the relaxing massage and I had the deep tissue massage. Both were very good. We especially enjoyed the hydrotherapy pools and sauna. Impressive.
EXCURSIONS: we took a trip to Riu Secreto. Highly recommend it! It was very unique and beautiful experience exploring the underwater caves.
Overall, out vacation was nice and relaxing. Thank you Barcelo Maya!

My husband and I visited in February. We have been to several all inclusives at this point and Barceló was definitely the best. The rooms were large, clean and well stocked with snacks and beverages. The personnel were friendly and efficient. The beach is gorgeous ! So many places to eat and they were all delicious. We went to the shows each night and had such fun. We are returning again in February because we don't think we could find a place that would top Barceló !
