My husband & I stayed here for 1 week in September & wished we booked longer

The hotel is very clean, the gardens are immaculate. With jetlag I was up very early & watched the pool man start his marathon task @ 6am every day so if anyone complained the pools are dirty its not true !
The food was good plenty of choice in the buffet restaurants our favourite was the Aircon buffet we found the food hotter. We loved the steakhouse, but didn’t think much of the mexican & the tapas was not great
The beach is lovely but due to all the tropical storms & hurricanes there was a lot of seaweed (not blaming the hotel)
Our standard room was great 3121 we had view of pools round Yucatan & could see the sea. It was clean every day & the massive bed was very comfortable
The animation team are awesome, full of energy & fun they work very hard in the hot sun
Round the Riviera Maya main pool we saw some great live bands during the day , its a shame they didn’t play in the evenings.
We hired a golf cart $50 for 24 hours was great fun going around the whole gated community & seeing things that were too far to walk
This holiday was worth every minute of the 11hour flight, & 2 hour transfer . Most mexican people are lovely.
Big shout out to the Bartenders they make some of the best cocktails ive ever tasted
We will definitely go back but for longer next time, loved this place & had 1 of the best holidays

First impression wasn't great as no seperate check-in for privilege. Had to wait in a queue in the heat drinking a warm fruit cocktail we were given.

Busboy took us to our room that was a good distance from reception. We booked a Honeymoon room with a terrace that had a 4 poster bed as it was the only one available. It had 2 Honeymooner t-shirts on it (large and small) and there was a warm bottle of Cava type bubbly next to flat screen TV and fruit. It was taken away a few days later as it hadn't all been eaten, what a cheek! Terrace had a small plunge pool, 1 sunlounger not 2 (for sharing I take It?), small table and 2 (Yeh!) chairs. Plenty storage space in bedroom and bathroom was fine with a walk in shower but no hand rails, tut tut! Necessary especially if you're disabled like me.

Arrived late afternoon so had plenty time to unpack, shower and get ready. Eventually found a buffet but choice was awful and my husband who can eat most things found something he could eat. I had to ask for a meal of chicken and veg and was given it in soup form half hour later but left it as it had no flavour. Ate 2 small biscuits that were nice.

Got lost trying to find the Abuelo bar and 2 employees helped us as I speak a little Spanish. We heard music and finally got there but had to walk up steps and ramps so my legs were very sore to say the least. Watched most of the Musical show that was on but it was the only one we managed to catch in the 2 weeks we were there.
Our room was located near the bar which was great but again had to go down ramps and stairs, better than trying to go up for me. Bar was open until 2am but entertainment finished at 11pm so it was boring unless you were with others. After the entertainment, that was usually good, you were expected to go to the disco with the animation team who worked exceptionally hard all day and night. The disco is on the other side and too far for me to walk so we never made it unfortunately. Whoever designed the layout got it completely wrong but as it was originally 2 resorts made into 1 it explains a lot and that's why it's unsuitable for many.

The following morning we spoke to the Privilege reps who showed us where to go for breakfast which was either up too many stairs that I could never walk up or a winding ramp. My husband assisted me up the ramp but I was knackered to say the least. Sat down at top before going to the Beloved restaurant where Privilege guests only have breakfast and lunch, if they want. We left after only having orange juice as the menu mainly consisted of a variety of egg dishes as I don't eat eggs there was only a choice of fruit and toast etc. They said I could eat of the lunch menu but who'd want to eat as much as that in the morning? Suppose if you were a big eater but not me.

Passed the buffet we 'ate' in last night and found the other buffet which was much nicer inside and no slippy floor. Good variety of food and ate there for breakfast and lunch every day. Ran out of bacon and sausages several times and also hash browns at breakfast and hit and miss at lunch with choices but found when we ate there at night the choices were worse. 1 guy was there to serve the carvery, fish or meat, fry chicken breast or fish etc and also do pasta for customers. It was ridiculous and whoever was cooking/serving was always rushed as most people wanted what he was cooking.

The part of the beach reserved for Privilege was on the opposite side to where the accommodation is, why? It's maybe close to the buffet but a
good way away from the Privilege rooms, bad planning! First week you could go into the sea as you could see where the rocks were but the 2nd week was windy with few storms so the seaweed situation was unbelievable. Digging holes in the sand to bury it but never ending and waste of time. Why not invest in a small tractor that will do the job?

The Chillout bar that was on the Privilege beach was situated in front of the lower sea view rooms, another example of bad planning. Very poor service especially on our 2nd week when the staff changed. You're supposed to be served with your order of drinks on the beach but my husband had to go to the bar 80% or more to get our drinks. Wasn't far away but not what was part of the 'deal'. Bartender was great though.

Had to wait in queue if you wanted to go to the al a carte restaurants if you hadn't booked. I was lucky in a way as I had to phone reception for a wheelchair at least 15 mins before we wanted to leave and most of the time it came on time. We were taken straight into the restaurants that were up the ramp, Beloved, Tapas, Italian and Mexican. The Mexican was the best and ate there twice. The Italian was where we had our romantic meal on our last night as part of our honeymoon package with photos being taken.

Our holiday was marred by signing and booking a lobster meal at the Beloved restaurant on our 4th night. The restaurant itself was like walking into a fridge and made it uncomfortable. I had to put napkins over my shoulders and keep going outside to warm up. Getting back to our complaint, after our starter that I hardly ate as small tacos were too dry, the lobster came and my husband also ordered a steak to go with his half. I couldn't eat mine as it was salty and I mean very salty and that's all you could taste. My husband couldn't eat his as overcooked and couldn't get it out of shell. We spoke to waitress who got the manager who apologised and took it away before returning and booked us for the Mexican the following evening where we expected to get another lobster. Of course that didn't happen and queried why but more apologies and the manager would look into it! Spoke to the person we booked the meal from the following afternoon and she apologised and looked us to go to the Steak House the next evening. Again we expected a lobster but instead the manager there Roberto apologised and would look into it! Inbetween this we had spoken to our Privilege reps and my husband and went to reception about it but nothing was done and we were still being charged €40. We spoke to managers again at restaurants and I went to reception but unhelpful and gave me a complaint form that I completed and handed back. Had all our contact numbers and address but was never contacted, not surprised.

When checking out in the morning we were a few minutes late as we had to wait for a wheelchair and busboy to assist us but they were very late. The charge was still there although we had done everything we could to resolve it. She actually had the cheek to say We had ate it; wish I'd had the time or even thought to take a photo of the unbeaten inedible lobster. We were made to pay it under extreme duress being threatened that we wouldn't be checked out so would incur a daily charge for the room until it was paid. She went on to say that the bus was waiting for us and it would go leaving us to get a taxi to the airport which was approx €60. We've never been treated so abominably and wer shocked. She happy though that the TC airport rep was there to witness what happened and she had never seen any guests being treated in that way. Advised us to contact TC which I did but they were more interested in the fall that I had in the bathroom, splitting my head and injuring my back. No grabrails so the hotel are lucky I'm not pursuing them for damages.

Took the complaint to our credit card company who put it into Dispute and we were returned the money but the hotel took it back stating that I signed for the meal after we ate but it's a lie as they know it was signed when it's booked which in our case was approx 4 hours before. They've also said several things that aren't true such as we had the meal 2 nights before we left and offered us another that we declined and no time to resolve it, lies again. The dispute is ongoing that's why it's taken me so long to write this review.

I want you to see what lengths this hotel will go to to keep €40 or in our case £31.22. Greed doesn't come into it and the lies are unbelievable.

The saga continues and won't stop until we get our money back. Their sister hotel the Catalonia is fabulous and would return tomorrow but we'd NEVER return here.

Hello Just got back from 11 nights at this fantastic Tropical Paradise.

Check in was fantastic speedy which is required after a long flight from the UK. Sergio checked us in and advised all details required for our stay and we received a refreshing drink while the paperwork was being finalised. Love Sergio he is the most polite and helpful dude on the reception ever We loved him. Our luggage was taken to our room 4127 which has 2 double beds and a view off the pool and beach. Clean and just what you need. Welcomed to a towel Birthday cake and a real one from the hotel thank you it was for my daughters 21st Birthday. Pools are clean (everyday) and restaurants the same. The best restaurants are the Japanese and Steakhouse. The buffet restaurants are ok but sometimes they can serve the same food we ate at the one on the Yucatan side which was lovely. The grounds are massive you can get a bit lost at times but everyone is polite and always get a Hola from all staff. We had our meeting the next day with Ryan the Thomas Cook rep and he was lovely and is always around to help you and he in contactable via WhatsApp which is good. We hired a gold buggy which was so much fun and drove all around Puerto Aventuras which is lovely. We went to the marina saw the dolphins and went to the shops. Jessies does a lovely crepe with Nutella they are from the Netherlands and put us at ease about the pending hurricane Nate which missed us completely. If you order food at the pub in the marina they give you too much so we could off ordered tacos for 1 and shared so much waste but prices are really reasonable in the marina. We caught a cab from the hotel they call them for you at reception to go into playa del Carmen 5th Avenue for some shopping 600 Peso return. Shopping is good but they constantly call you into their shops all the time just smile and say on my way back but it happens to everyone they also follow you around the shop and if you touch anything they go into a long speech about everything they have to buy bit annoying but they need to make a living somehow. Absolutely loved my shopping day they have Sephora Pandora H & M Bath & Bodyworks Michael Kors and more. We did the pool most of the time and you can get snack from the Creperie which serves crepes ice cream milkshakes Coffee and there is a sausage van and they are delicious or you have the steakhouse which changes into a snack bar during the day. you must have clothing suck us dress or shorts & tee shirts to eat or they send you out. During the day all the pool the entertainment staff keep you busy with volleyball or water aerobics and more. Big shout out to Erik and Marco who were absolutely hilarious they are such great boys who spend so many hours trying to keep you all entertained even when we have a 20 min rain shower, they are also working in the evenings in the Theatre these boys can do 16 Hours straight and need a pay rise hope your reading this management these boys are brilliant I cannot remember all the entertainer names but they made our holiday. Sun beds there can be shortages and people do put towels out early to get them but all you do is none are around is go to the beach there are always loads there. I got my best tan on the beach maybe a little bit burned I spent just 1 day at the beach and tanned more than I did after 8 days around the pool. Didn't use the chill out bar as we don't really drink but they walk the beach and ask if you require a drink same with the pool. The shops on site are lovely but a bit expensive and unless you are paying by card its gets charged to your room. The hotel only take Peso they have a money exchange so you can change us other currencies but its a better rate in the Marina. We didn't upgrade its not worth it you just get better towels and Beloved restaurant they do the best breakfast and lunch but too much fish in the evening. The people I met who were upgraded for different reasons said they would not off paid for it. I would just like to say what a fantastic holiday I had and will miss everyone dearly.

My husband and I along with our Daughter and her friend stayed here from 25 Sept to 9 October 2017.
Wow!, what can i say, we all had a fantastic time and can recommended this hotel. The staff work really hard and are eager to please. The facilities are cleaned regularly and the hotel rooms are comfortable and clean. We stayed in 4140 and 4141 and our cleaner was just the best - i can't remember his name but hopefully the hotel will pass on our thanks.

There was plenty to choose from at the buffet restaurants and can highly recommend the Italian and Steak House as the best 'al la carte' restaurants on the complex. The entertainment team work hard also and have the drive and motivation every day in encouraging interaction with various activities. Thank you to Lucas in the Italian for having a fabulous sense of Humour, Lorenza in the Steak House for accommodating the customer well and to Eric, Christian, Marco, Lewis and others in the entertainment team for also having a great sense of humour. I have only mentioned a few, but everyone and everything at the hotel is outstanding including the cleanliness of all facilities and well maintained grounds.

From booking in at the start of our holiday to checking out at the end, i can honestly say i will return to this hotel in the future.

Thankyou Catalonia Yucatan Beach Resort and Spa and thankyou Mexico!

Room Tip: they are all good!
