Arrival - We visited this hotel for 1 week ( 9th - 16th sept ) . The hotel is around 30 mins transfer from the airport and check is very quick and staff are ready and greeting you with a cool pineapple juice and tequila !

The room- We were given a room on the 8th floor with sea views, both the sunsets and sunrises are great to watch ! 1st impressions of the room were good with plenty of towels, a large bed and flat screen tv. There are limited English channels to watch. There is a free safe and you are encouraged to use this. The room was cleaned Daily and fridge stocked every other day with Pepsi / water / 7up and lager.

The pool - the pool area gets very busy and sun beds are reserved from around 8am, however there are plenty of beds. There is a towel service and you can collect a towel from
9am. So no need to take your own ! The swim up bar is great and service was quick with some great cocktails, but lots of wasps hanging around . The bar is open from
10am - 6pm. There are lots of activities around the pool during the day, you can join in with as much or as little as you want. The bar area did get quite loud towards the end of the day with lots of people who has been drinking since early afternoon. The water was warm so people would tend to spend the entire day in the pool.

The beach is natural and grainy sand and not the soft sand of the Caribbean, the sea is also very rough and cloudy. During our stay we didn't see any wildlife on the beach, but one of the guest was stung by a jelly fish ! The hotel offers free water sports through out the day within the sea.

The restaurants were situated at different ends of the hotel grounds. We did not eat at the sir George restaurant as my partner was understandably not keen on wearing jeans and long sleeve shirt in 30c+ temperatures. We did however try all the other restaurants. The beach front buffet was ideal for lunch and had Great views of the sea and a welcoming sea breeze, unlike
Other reviewers we didn't not have any issues with the birds eating our food. the Chinese restaurant ( a buffet ) was nice.
We ate mainly in the buffet, the breakfast , lunch and dinner was varied. I am vegetarian and found lots of things I could enjoy. There are lots of fresh meats, salads, fish, Mexican and plenty of cooking stations. For anyone who doesn't fancy that there was always the standard sections of pizza, burgers chips etc ! The waiters are fab and always make sure your drink is full and remember what drinks you order, they are also very quick to clear away dirty plates and tables.

The entertainment team were great during the day around the pool, the hotel had different themed evening . The only
Show we attended was the Micheal Jackson tribute ! I would highly recommend that show !

I have to mention in this review the Mosquitos, these were the negative part of our holiday. The hotel does NOT spray. Luckily I had read the reviews and knew I needed bug spray, but simply the 2 cans we took were not enough. We wore the bands and sprayed a few times a day, my partner and I had around 10-15 bites each even with the precautions, we were very lucky as people were covered in bites ! The hotel does not stock bug spray so take your own and take lots as they are around all day and late into the evening.

All in all, A fab location and a great hotel , if only It wasn't a 12 hour flight I would defiantly return !

The hotel is fantastic, the staff are excellent and the entertainment team are great, especially Ricardo who managed to try and keep us all fit!
Our bedroom was overlooking the neighboring carpark but to be honest the view of the sea and the mountains is still in sight.
The bedrooms were cleaned daily and spotless.
You have a choice of 4 restaurants which all bar one are excellent, The George wasn't that good and took us 40 mins to get bread rolls but didn't ruin the holiday. There is also a sports bar open 24/7 that serves food and drink all in with your all inclusive.
A few pointers.
1. Do take loads of insect cream you will get bitten regularly but DO NOT BUY from Thomson reps, they rip you off and charge you $10 for bracelets which only cost 80p back home.
2. DO NOT BUY your trips from Thomson, again they are higher than suntours which gave us our trips for $25 cheaper than them.
3. It rained every night with storms, not a problem as everything under cover, however, the hotel is very large and some areas can become dangerous if not moped up.

Room Tip: You do pay more for a better scenery, but it is not really worth it as you do spend little time in y...

This was our first time staying in a RIU hotel and our first time on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. Originally we were booked to go to Cuba, but the trip was cancelled due to hurricane Irma. Aside from a 7 hour delay at the Toronto airport, which was due to our plane being involved in humanitarian efforts to pick up stranded vacationers from the hurricane affected islands; (a very good reason;) everything else went smoothly. We were impressed with the professionalism and good service of this hotel's staff who work very hard. This is a very efficiently run Hotel. The food was both plentiful and excellent; I simply cannot see anyone thinking the food is repetitive; there's just too many options! We had a partial sea view room with a king bed and were impressed by the cleanliness, the view, and the comfort. Room was cleaned well by the housekeeper and we were surprised by the mini bar in the room, (which we didn't use) as we're not big drinkers; we had never seen this before! The fridge was always stocked well with soda, beer, and plentiful water. We cannot say enough about the staff and the level of professional service of this hotel. We will stay at Riu Vallarta again for sure! Being it was our first time on the Pacific side; I can honestly say that we enjoyed it more than on the Gulf side. We liked the authentic feel of the nearby small town of Bucerias where we had a fantastic seafood dinner right on the beach with your toes in the sand; a a place called "Fat Boy." Great value for what you get, large prawns, 2 lobster tails, large scallops with a delicious house appetizer. We also took a cab to Puerto Vallarta where again it is more of an authentic Mexico feel than if you were to go to Playa del Carmen. The only thing was the constant getting hit on to buy things, but it is their livelihood and they are not aggressive; we have no issues with this. Sayulita is a charming fishing village as well. Everything was more than we expected and we would highly recommend the Hotel; we had a great time for sure!

Firstly, if you are reading this wondering weather or not to splash the cash, book it. You will not be disappointed.

The hotel itself it situated about 25 minutes from the airport and on the beach.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left everything ran like clockwork. Check in was simple and easy and all the relevant staff were on hand to welcome us. We were even greeted with complimentary drinks after short transfer.

The hotel itself was always kept clean and tidy. Yes some decor is looking a little tired but nothing to complain about.

Being an open door hotel, there is no main door just a large opening which was a little strange but always felt secure.

The room was great, spacious and best of all we had a sea view on the 8th floor. There was a free mini bar and otics which had vodka etc in. I was surprised that the minibar was free and contained bottles of water, pepsi, 7up and beer, topped up as and when you require. Awesome!

It was physically impossible to go hungry in this hotel. Fresh food is always on hand, cooked daily and mostly infront of you. There was a stupid amount of selection. Meats, salads, fish, pizzas, fajitas etc etc. Ice cream on tap too. We were just spoilt for choice. We NEVER in the 14 nights had a bad meal.

The beach and pool areas were also kept tidy and clean. There are a few big lizards in the grounds too which was nice to see.

Local taxis always to hand as and when needed if you wish to venture out and about or to an excursions point. All fixed prices too so you dont get ripped off.

We were lucky enough to see a mother turtle laying her eggs on the beach one evening which topped the holiday off aswel as swimming with dolphins at the vallarta adventures center (well worth the money).

All in all we could not complain apart from it being a little "too hot".

Id book again in a heartbeat.
