The Sake Margs were great and the sushi was solid. I thought the seating was awesome! it was traditional japanese floor mat seating.
The sushi, sashimi, miso soup and various other dishes we had (including grilled octopus) were brilliant. However, the service is quite slow, unattentive and our server did not point out that gratuity had already been added to the bill - I ended up tipping 38%!
All in all though, would recommend this place. Try the sake margaritas!
My boyfriend and I stopped in for a quick lunch at Sushi Village the other day and the food was lovely - it's great value for money. However we found our waiter condescending and unfriendly throughout the meal. This was proven further when after paying the bill (which amounted to $25, to which we left a $2.50 tip - 10%) he called us back as we were trying to leave to suggest that we had not tipped him enough. In light of the fact that we had merely stopped in for a quick 20 minute lunch and only ordered one plate of food to share, we felt a 10% tip was sufficient. He made us feel incredibly uncomfortable and I find it very rude for him to question us regarding the gratuity in front of other customers, particularly when a gratuity is entirely up to the customer's discretion. What would have been a nice meal was ruined by this uncomfortable situation at the end. Tasty food but the staff clearly need more training and so we would not go back because of this.
We spent a few days in Whistler and decided we would just grab one meal out in the village and my daughter (8) is a big sushi fan. It turns out that Sushi Village was only 160 yards from our hotel (thank you Google Maps) and so we decided to surprise her with our dinner choice. It was definitely busy (as many have said), although you can make reservations if you are worried. We were seated right away. Our server was pleasant and we ordered fairly quickly. We had Crunchy PS Roll, KFC Roll, California Roll, Tempura Roll x 2, Assorted Tempura and Miso Soup x 3. The food was great. It was Whistler so the regular value we get at our local place does not apply (this is to be expected in a tourist mecca). It did take a while to get our food (and with a 5 and 8 year old that can be hard) but when we ordered a subsequent roll and the soup later after our other food it came out quicker so must have just been a rush on the kitchen earlier. We would go back. It was convenient, the food was good and the service was great (thanks Yoko). I wish I had tried the Saki Margarita - they looked really yummy (next time!).
