I can't say enough about Grand Manan. If I could make a living over there I would certainly live there. The people are friendly and down to earth. The scenery is breathtaking and for the amateur photographer it is unlimited. We stay at the Anchorage Provincial Park and love it there. It is peaceful, clean and beautiful there. I love the marshlands and high cliffs over on the "Dark Side" of the island as well as the free ferry over to White Head Island for a little excursion. I also enjoyed the sardine museum (also a great place to take pictures) as well as the numerous beaches to walk....so peaceful....so quiet and calming...love it love it love it!!

Grand Manan is a small island accessbile by ferry from Blacks Harbour in New Brunswick. It is quiet, and beautiful. Marshland, hiking, biking. Nothing fancy or touristy. We stayed for four days and wished we had spent our whole vacation there. Highly recommend a visit.

You take the ferry to this island and from here you take the Whales and Sails whale watching tour. It is the best.

Two very special opportunities on this island are the chance to see an Atlantic puffin colony on Machias Island and about eight species of whale. The puffin rookery is on Machias Island, accessible by a five-hour boat tour with one of the local operators. The Island is a puffin research station. Limited numbers of guest are allowed on the island to view the birds from four blinds, allowing for seeing the puffins at very close range. These tours end in early August. The whale tours also are about five hours in length and whale sightings are almost guaranteed. Grand Manan also has great lighthouses, fine inns, a fabulous bakery and fresh lobster.

If you like stunning ocean views, historic fishing villages and the life of a simple fishing village, Grand Manan is the place for you! With a small population, and relatively few tourists, you won't find many restaurants, or glitzy attractions. However, there are miles and miles of gorgeous trails to hike; and breathtaking vistas like that from the Swallowtail Lighthouse. The island is filled with century old fishing cottages, many of which are available for seasonal rentals, and the local people are warm and welcoming. About an hour and a half ferry ride from Blacks Harbor, NB, Grand Manan Island is an absolute gem in the Bay of Fundy!
