After a week of eating lots of great fish and other seafood, we were in the mood for some land meat! Not that we were not tempted by the fish soup, and I did have oysters Rockefeller to start (they were great), but my steak was perfectly cooked and very tender, and my wife's grilled meat appetizer would have been enough for 2 people to share as a main course! If you can, keep room for some delectable desserts, especially the chocolate phyllo creation. Our waiter was also great, pleasant, checking on us time to time, and overall helping to make the experience a memorable one. Definite strong recommend and not easy to spot as the entrance is in a lane between Duckworth and Water streets. Look for the sign for Duke of Duckworth and that will identify the lane.

Try a seat at the bar and partake in happy hour till 7:00pm. Prosecco and a variety of other drinks at $6. The happy hour menu has a selection of $6 and $8 items. Definitely try the duck confit nachos ($8 happy hour price). Tonight we had the charcuterie board, pretty good but doesn't touch the duck! Dessert was Vanilla Carmel Cheesecake, delicious, $12. The lychee martini is to die for!
Opens up at 5:30. Worth trying if you haven't been.

Looking for a decent place for dinner we accidentally entered Magnum & Steins via the bar below. Loud but a good atmosphere - Friday evening!
We were guided upstairs by the friendly staff and were seated within a few minutes - without a booking. Pure luck because it looks like a busy place.
Service was friendly without being excellent - but that's fine with me, because the food was absolute fantastic.
I had the glaced pork chop - one of the best ever. My colleagues both had the chicken which was also cooked to perfection.

I would say that a booking is probably required, I think we were just lucky.
Nothing to complain about on the service side - excellent food.

Highly recommended.

On a Friday evening in the summer, we arrived at Magnum and Steins without a booking. The staff could not have been more helpful in finding a table for us. Downstairs, the bar was full, noisy and happy. Upstairs, it was a bit more subdued, but still almost full when we arrived at about 7pm. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. And the food itself was good - it was just the flavour combinations that threw us off rather. The oysters that we had for a starter were delicious. For the main course I had fish and chips, only the chips were very heavily spiced and drowned out the flavour of the cod. My wife had home-made tagliatelle, with mussels and scallops on the side - only the pasta contained a whole range of additional strong flavours, including artichoke hearts, olives and bacon; all of them good in themselves, but together making it a rather confusing dish, and taking away from the delicious seafood.
It's almost as though the restaurant is trying a little too hard to be different, losing the special flavour of the seafood in the process. With such an abundance of fresh fish available, that seems to be a pity.

We had a fantastic meal in the bar area just recently! Great atmosphere and wonderful service by Andrew! We had the beef tartare and prawns as starters and the beef tenderloin and house-made pasta (a special, I believe). Everything was delicious! Great drink menu and reasonably priced house wines as well. Looking forward to returning!
