Highly recommend this place but suggest making reservations if going at prime time.
The four of us all enjoyed our lunch. The chowder was tasty as were the scallops and club sandwiches and the brownies for dessert were delightful!

Olivers is wonderful in every way. I came in without a reservation and my name was taken down and I was told to come back at a specified time. When I returned, I was fortunate enough to be seated sooner than expected and the server was as nice and accommodating as could be. He explained the specials and offered an excellent wine pairing with the meal and checked in after each course without at all being obtrusive or fawning. As to the food, it is first rate! The port wine vinaigrette was the perfect addition to a fresh and quite ample salad and the halibut special was outstanding. Everything was perfectly prepared and presented and it was easy for the server to persuade me on the brownie-ice cream dessert which was as delicious as everything else. This was a totally satisfying dining experience! Olivers is not inexpensive but it is not out of line because you really get excellent food in ample portions and excellent service and it is worth every penny.

Nice food and very friendly staff. We were lucky to get a table right away but it was very busy, and the restaurant is small. Do book and if you don’t you should check with the staff if the kitchen will be able to cope before betting on having a table later.
Quite recommendable.

Oliver’s is an example of a family owned and operated restaraunt where things go right. I say “family” in the positive sense - this is a professional and successful restaurant. Menu emphasizes local fresh seafood but includes beef, lamb and chicken as well. Desserts are made in house and are scrumptious. All of our meals were very well prepared and tasty. Service is attentive and knowledgeable. The wine list is surprising eclectic with good choices. Ambience is good - a bit smallish like you expect from a family run restaraunt, but tables were full and everyone was having a good time. St John’s is blessed with a number of good restaurants and Oliver’s is well worth the visit when you are in town.

This was our first visit to St. John’s NL. We went to Oliver’s by TA’s recommendation for a mid-day meal. We were very happy we did! A small resonant in downtown St John’s with extremely pleasant service. The Crab Chowder was thick, loaded with seafood and delicious. The daily special: Local Bass with mash potatoes and asparagus was delicious. My wife had fried jumbo shrimps, she claimed were terrific. We had a side order of garden salad and a glass of local dry white wine which really good as well.
