“Unique hotel, but know before you stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2012 via mobile

My husband and I loved our stay at the Halliburton, but I would advise potential guests to be fully aware of the nature of the hotel. It is more like an urban inn, comprising three houses. But the three are not connected. We had beautiful weather, so going from one "house" to the next for our morning coffee was not too much of a problem, but I might be writing a different review had it been stormy. Same for the stairs--there is no elevator. We were only up a short flight, but if we were on an upper floor, we could not have gotten our luggage up (no porter service either, the woman at the desk offered to help!). Noise from the street and the other guests was bothersome. That said, the room was huge and very clean. The hotel has a very relaxing and quaint atmosphere. The location was excellent. Free parking. We enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us. We are pleased you enjoyed the experience we offer.

For clarification, we believe that the layout of our historic townhouses and beautiful staircases, are part of what makes us so unique. Please also understand that during our quieter months, our front desk staff serve as our porters. They love to help with luggage and will even take you right to your room. Great service we think.

My husband and I spent three nights in one of the Hallburton buildings. The room is probably due for a renovation, but the furniture was well cared for and the room spacious. Our only real complaint was that the room was too hot at night, but this was easily remedied by opening the window. Their continental breakfast (included in the room price) had a good selection of breakfast items, considering that most continental breakfasts only offer a couple of pastries, juice and coffee or tea. The hotel has an excellent restaurant, which we would highly recommend. I suspect that their newly renovated rooms would be quite lovely and the service was good. (A minor inconvenience is the necessity of going to the front desk to get ice.) We would stay again, but perhaps ask for one of the renovated rooms next time.

Room Tip: There are at least three building included in the property. Rumour has it that some of buildings ha...

The Halliburton is a beautiful inn made up of three neighbouring historic homes with large, tastefully decorated rooms and very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is ideally located in downtown Halifax, within walking distance of all the main tourist attractions. In addition the hotel's restaurant- Stories- is exceptional with a focus on local/seasonal food- everything was delicious! They also offer a complimentary breakfast buffet (cereal/fruit/toast/eggs/coffee/tea) which is a nice treat. There is free WIFI as well. No complaints at all!

My fiance and I stayed at the Halliburton for three nights in June. Compared to the other inns and B&Bs we stayed at on our trip the Halliburton was the most expensive and least impressive, but I suppose you should expect to pay more to stay in downtown Halifax than in the smaller towns on the east coast.

While there was nothing really wrong with the Halliburton there were a few things that could really make it a four star stay. First off, the breakfast was nothing special, maybe slightly better than the comfort inn continental but nowhere near the quality of the breakfasts served at some of the other places we stayed. While they did serve warm baked beans that was about it for warm food and the food choices did not change at all during our three night stay. A little variety from day to day would be nice.

Our room was in the building next door which I didn't particularly mind, however, everytime someone came in and out of the building the main door would slam shut and we could hear this in our room. Our room was enormous with a sitting area and a nice comfortable bed, but the bathroom was small in comparison. Likewise, the common areas of the hotel seemed cramped and small, but I do understand that part of this is due to the nature of the building and part of the Halliburton's charm is the fact that it is in a converted heritage building, so you have to work with what you have. Probably the best thing about the Halliburton is its location which is great for seeing Halifax. The staff was very polite and the girl I spoke to on the phone to make the reservation was extremely helpful.

Overall, I would stay again but only if the price was right. For $160 a night, it seemed to be missing that little something extra to make you feel like you were staying in an upper level hotel.
