Was actually visiting Hamilton, but because of some festival all of the Marriott properties there had exorbitant special event rates. This property was far enough out to have a more reasonable rate, so this Fairfield Inn had a 40 mile (20 mile extra travel each way) penalty coming out of the box, but actually it turned out to overall be an okay place to stay. Of course, being a Fairfield, it is at the bottom of the Marriott range, so don't expect this to rival a Courtyard or Residence Inn, but it was fairly clean and well maintained. We did find that the toilet seat in our room was in need of repair (one of the anchors attaching it to the rest of the toilet was broken so it was kind of wobbly) and the clothes bar in the closet was mounted too close to the lip added to the shelf above it making it difficult to hook and unhook our clothes hangers, but otherwise everything pretty much worked the way we expected (TV, internet, etc.). The bed was comfortable and noise from other guests minimal, so we got a good night's rest. The free breakfast was, well, free, but nothing to write home about - the sausage patties have to be the blandest we've ever had (well, actually it was a tie with those at the Marriott that we stayed at the night before in London - maybe Canadians just like bland breakfast meat?), but at least the price was right.

Well, Marriott, for the first time ever, I was disappointed in your hotel. We ONLY stay at Fairfield Marriott hotels. ONLY. Whether in Canada or US, always the Marriott. Even have a Marriott Visa.
Don't get me wrong.... your staff was lovely, as always. Front desk and breakfast staff were wonderful, helpful, accommodating, which is what we've come to expect from you. But the amenities were dated, and not to your usual standards. This hotel needs a RENOVATION!
Started off by walking into the hotel, through an ancient automatic door that wasn't working, a sign of things to come.
Small breakfast area with a limited breakfast.... not what we've come to expect from other Fairfields (ie Elkin,North Carolina)
The room has an ancient window unit heating/cooling system. It was so cold in our room one night that I had to turn the heat on for a few minutes. What came out of that unit smelled like mold. I turned it off immediately and hoped for the best.
Cookies. As stupid as this sounds, other Marriotts have cookies for the guests, as well as fresh fruit like apples and bananas. My girls were happy to get cookies, one night of the 3 we were there. And there was no hot chocolate, which my daughter loves to have in your other hotels after she has her nightly swim and heads up to the room before bed.
Pillows. Only 3 pillows on the beds, not 4. Our family needs a lot of pillows due to some physical limitations and post-surgical issues. Good thing the kids brought their own for the drive! As well as extra blankets, we used those in the room too.
Curtains didn't completely cover the window! My husband had to drag out the ironing board and prop it up against the curtains so that we wouldn't have sunshine streaming in in the morning.
No pool towels at the pool.
Overall, disappointing to say the least. We love Marriott and this won't change our opinion of the chain, but really, you need to overhaul this place!
Again, I can't say enough about your staff. Our maid took great care of our room, nice and clean when we returned from a long day. Front desk manager was very helpful and apologetic when there was a problem with our reservation, which she resolved. Breakfast ladies always smiling and friendly, helpful with tips on tourist-y things about Toronto.
But there needs to be a few upgrades done here before it can be a 4 or 5, for sure.

Dear Claire W,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us during your time in the Oakville area.
I apologize for the inconveniences that occurred, namely the decor of the building as well as the lack of cookies provided. Our ownership group is currently looking into improving the hotel and is in our plans in the future. I have spoken to the front office manager regarding the front desk associates to ensure that there is sufficient cookies left for all guests to enjoy and to have the hot chocolate available. I am pleased to hear that our staff was accommodating to your needs and i will definitely pass that information along to them.

Please contact me directly if you have any questions or concerns you may have.

Best regards,

Brennah and Erika at the front desk were so helpful. We needed a room for two nights, but the hotel was full on the second night. Brennah and manager Andrew went out of their way to find us a room. They had a room that was out of service because of a light issue in the bathroom. They had someone come in and fix the issue so we could have a room for the second night, and Erika gave us directions to get to the Go Train to see the Blue Jays.
If that's isn't first class service I don't know what is. My family can't thank them enough.

Room Tip: The hotel is only 30 minutes from Toronto. The traffic when you get close to Toronto is like NYC.

First impact: one more of these hotels you can find when traveling by car… Second impact: a very kind Venezuelan reception attendant ready to make our experience unique. She was really very sympatric and very helpful. Third impact: the room – “Yes, this is an absolutely regular low cost oriented hotel”. It is a nice hotel for who is working and has just to spend the night, but that´s all. The breakfast has low assortment, the “apple/bagel” American offer.

We stayed at the Oakville Fairfield while visiting friends in the area. It's exactly what you would expect from a Fairfield...and a little more. It was a very reasonable rate, and was a 3 star hotel.

The clerk checking us in was friendly, but did not offer a Gold Member welcome gift or acknowledge our status. I don't know if the expectations in Canada are different than in the US for Marriott. When questioned about the welcome gift, she replied that they were out of them, but offered me apples from the breakfast room instead. The front desk staff was very helpful and always ready to answer questions. We enjoyed the apples and were delighted to find that hot, fresh chocolate chip cookies are served each afternoon.

The free breakfast included hot dishes (waffles, sausage, eggs, bacon one day, etc.) as well as the usual fruit, pastries, cereals, yogurt, juices, milk, etc. Wifi is free if you are a Marriott member, and it's free to join.

The lobby has plenty of seating, and the pool looked to be clean and in good order. A Wendy's is located next door for convenient and affordable meals. Many strip malls are within a couple of minutes drive. It's about 15 minutes to drive to Oakville's quaint downtown and lake. It's a 45 minute drive to Niagara Falls, if you avoid rush hour, but we highly recommend the Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa if you want to enjoy the sights. (see my review)

The room is what is to be expected for a Fairfield. Nothing fancy, but clean and the mattress was comfortable. The pillows are little squashier than Marriotts, but you can bring your own if you are picky. Nice, clean white bedspreads feel fresh. We slept well and did not hear any noise from neighbors.

TIP to Management: The very large prints hung high above the tall headboards look out of place and are too high for eye level. Most hotels would instead hang them side by side on the empty wall to the right of the beds (right when looking at the headboards). The use of lime green is a nice modern touch and the carpet and bedspreads seem contemporary. The curtains have nice colors but have dated fabric that seem more 90's than 2010's. The curtains also do not fully block sunlight, which is important for guests from another time zone or who just wish to sleep in. Additionally, I found it difficult to get the water to switch from tub to shower when I pulled the knob...I had to make multiple attempts to pull the knob each day to achieve a shower.

Good stay at a good price! Would stay again.
