Even with the current situation going on all over the world this hotel was amazing, the staff were helpful and took every precaution to make our stay an amazing one.
The parking lot is huge, talk about social distancing, and free.
And this hotel is one of the few that really looks like it is open, everything is lit up and welcoming. I have stayed at this hotel in the past and this is another 5 stars from my end, looks like it is still new.

Quiet weekday stay for course provision. Booked into this hotel since it was close to the course location. Check in and out was very quick. Hotel was extremely quiet. Room was comfortable and wifi was fast and seamless to access.

Check in was very easy. I dealt with Alex Grigorescu the front desk manager who was very generous and helped me secure a free night using my IHG points. He was very helpful and accommodating and made the whole process very easy. We enjoyed our stay and had a nice quiet restful stay and will definitely choose this hotel again for future stays in Ottawa.

The room was nice although parts of the bathroom could have used a bit of renovation. It's situated next to a Tex/Mex restaurant and quite near a shopping mall. There's light rail at the shopping mall that will take you downtown (good if you're a tourist).
The one negative was that they added a $100/night security deposit to the credit card charge. I didn't see anything about a security deposit when I booked through their web site nor do I recall it being mentioned when I checked in. The charge does get removed eventually (it took an entire week before the security deposit was removed from my credit card). I don't feel it is right. They have a cancellation policy which I doubt would allow you to cancel at that point even though they were not up front about the charge.

In regards to the incidentals credit card hold, this is a normal practice in hotels, and we should have made you aware of it at check in. I will verify the procedures with the staff to ensure they are followed.
This is not a charge, it is only a hold for you to be able to charge to your room any food and beverage charges etc. and it is automatically and immediately released at check out by the hotels although your financial institution might take longer to release the hold.

Holiday Inn East in Ottawa was wonderful as usual. My mistake of booking through Cancelon. The wrong date was booked at the hotel which became apparent when I arrived. Good news though. The hotel still had rooms and was willing to switch the booking over. Bad news. Because the booking was made through Cancelon, the switch was denied and I ended up being billed for the extra night. Even though I was standing right at the counter and the clerk was willing to make the change. Lesson to self. Only book directly with the hotel next time!
