I stayed at the Auberge King Edward B&B on a recent trip with my mother. The stay was incredibly comfortable and was situated downtown, close enough to walk to many of Ottawa's main attractions. Richard was a gracious and caring host, ensuring we had proper orientation to this grand old house and it's history. He also took the time to sit with us and suggest some "must see" sights during our short stay in Ottawa. The house is big & beautiful ensuring privacy and the breakfast is incredible - sure to please any palate. I would highly recommend this B&B.

Room Tip: The Tower Room is situated at the front of the house and is big and very sunny. Although it's on a fairly busy street, the windows have been somewhat soundproofed to drown out the traffic noises, so it's surprisingly quiet and has it's own bathroom. We enjoyed the little deck off our room.

We had a great stay at the Auberge King Edward. It was a great alternative to the large hotels in the downtown area, with personalized service and walking distance to everything we wanted to do in Ottawa. The front garden was amazing, a real work of art. Richard Gervais, our host, was most helpful, and provided maps and advice on the best things to do. Sunny was adorable - well behaved and friendly. We will not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: Tower room was great, and had a relaxing private balcony.

I am in Ottawa for work every few months, and have stayed in several hotels and B&Bs in the downtown/market area. Whenever the choice is up to me, I would book here. It's a beautiful building with an atmosphere that makes you feel at-home without being tacky or unprofessional as I have sometimes found other B&Bs to be. The common areas are lovely, and the rooms have interesting books. Richard is an attentive and friendly host, very knowledgeable about the city and willing to help you decide what to do and how to get there. The rooms are spacious, with everything you need, including lots of comfortable pillows. Breakfast is huge and delicious - eggs, muffins, croissants, yogurt, cereal, fruit, good orange juice, tea and coffee. This place has a great location, and you can walk to nearly any of the touristy spots. Plus it has the world's loveliest dog, the smart and sociable labradoodle, Sonny.

It has a couple drawbacks, but they are all minor, and some are just the kind of thing you get with an older house like this, such as creaky floors. There is a fairly vocal parrot who lives there, and if you are in the room closest to the kitchen, it can wake you up in the morning. It didn't really bother me, but if you are a particularly light or late sleeper, you might want to request the room closest to the front of the house. Also, the parking is arranged in a way that sometimes your car can get trapped in by another, so you have to either get Richard to move his, or move yours to let his out. Given that you can walk everywhere and that Richard is good about checking with you ahead of time about the cars, I didn't find this to be more than a very minor inconvenience. Another is that sound travels a lot in the house, so if you or your companions are going to be particularly noisy, book elsewhere so you don't ruin everyone else's sleep. Also, two of the rooms share a bathroom. This wasn't a problem for me, but if you like long baths at night or tend to hog the bathroom, you should request the room that comes with a private bathroom.

Overall, this is my favourite place to stay in Ottawa. I highly recommend it, and thank Richard for offering such a lovely place to stay for a reasonable price.

The lawn was covered in so many beautiful tulips and it beckoned us to the front door of a marvelous bed and breakfast. This was our first trip together and we couldn't have pick a better place. Richard, the owner welcomed us along with his dog Sonny who waited patiently for his nod to come forward. He is so well behaved and friendly that you can not stop but falling in love with him. There is also a bird named Kiwi... who is so friendly that it sat on my girl friend's finger. Richard is so helpful. He went out of his way to show us on a printed map the best routes to all the highlights of Ottawa. Everything is within walking distance of the King Edward as stated on his web site. We walked each day whether it was to go out and eat or to visit a famous landmark. The King Edward is beautifully decorated with many antiques which adds to its charm. Our room was so inviting after a good day site seeing. The bed was so comfortable. Each morning breakfast was served ... there was a choice of fresh fruit, ceral, muffins, croisants and the highlight was a special made omlet. Richard was so friendly. He answered any of our questions. On the last day he even went out of his way and took us to the train station. I would recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone who wants a beautiful place to stay while visiting Ottawa.

A stay in the captivating “ Auberge King Edward Bed and Breakfast” will be one of the highlights of any trip to Ottawa. From the moment we entered the stately home of Richard Gervais, we felt welcome. Richard was kind enough to provide us with a map and practical advice in which to get the most of our Ottawa experience. Most major attractions as well as a myriad of restaurants were within walking distance!
We were very satisfied with our spacious bedroom ,comfortable bed, sitting area ,and many amenities. The two large parlours with a cozy fireplace and plenty of comfy corners were available for our use. Breakfast, served in a grand dinning room, accommodated our schedule, filled us with fresh, delicious food and offered friendly morning conversation. We would definitely be amiss if Sunny, a most mannerly doodle, and Kiwi the parrot were not mentioned. Our stay was terrific!
