This experience was great. The food and wine parings were delicious!
Definitely recommend for a night out.
My husband and I went on the Ottawa Tasting Tour October 15, 2016 to celebrate our anniversary. This was a very neat experience. We enjoyed beef tartar (with a red wine pairing), sushi (with a white wine pairing), tortellini (with a beer pairing) and bread pudding and ice cream (with champagne). I loved trying all of the different things. My husband is not much of a wine drinker and was able to switch out the wine for beer without any issues.
I know they choose from 10 different restaurants so the experience could be different every time.
There were 12 people in our group that evening and I liked meeting new people and finding out where everyone was from and what it was like where they came from.
Our guide was fantastic and provided lots of knowledge regarding the drink pairing to the food we were having. The only recommendation I would have is that if you plan to tip your guide, do so at the beginning of the tour because when we were almost done, he left while we were still sitting at our table so we missed an opportunity to provide a tip and would definitely have done so usually.
The tasting guide "old Nick", met us on time at the location indicated. He quickly got the group under control and lead us to our first tasting. All four tastings were fine with the sushi stop at Tomo's my favorite. All in all my fellow quest were quite cordial and made the experience even more enjoyable. WE did have great weather which made the walking part of the tour enjoyable as well. DO It.
We took the tour on a Thursday night, on a very hot day |and night) still the walking between the locales, the conversation, and the great pairing of dish and wine (one beer) was awesome. One of those events that when is done seems like went in a flash (2 hours later). Excellent salad with soft and crunchy croutons, deep fried Zucchini with ricotta, and gourmet tacos were each a highlight, with it's corresponding pairing, ending with an awesome dessert and pairing ;-) Thanks Nick it was enjoyable.
I booked this for me and my family for my parent's 30th wedding anniversary. It was just the 6 of us. First, we went to: Play Food and Wine for a plate of: Grilled halloumi/eggplant/salsa verde/harissa/sunflower seed Paired with Chardonnay. Then we headed to Brothers Beer Bistro for a plate of Zucchini Blossoms; Tempura Fried Fresh Ricotta Stuffed Zucchini Flower, Spiralled Zucchini and Ramp Pesto, Pea Tendrils and Amaranth with a glass of cider. Our third stop was Must Kitchen and Wine Bar where we had Tortellini (since we requested no fish) Seasoned Tomatoes/ Roasted garlic tapenade/ herbed ricotta/ balsamic reduction/ parmesan paired with Chardonnay Lastly, we headed to The Brig Pub and had a Desert; A cheesecake Paried with Freixenet.
Overall, I think it was a great experience. A little pricy since we weren't completely full leaving the tour but, it allowed us to try restaurants we hadn't tried before and to try plates we probably wouldn't have ordered. The food was delicious and the company from Nick was awesome. I'd recommend it for a celebration amongst friends.
We booked this tour with another couple and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food pairings at each stop were excellent, though at one of the restaurants we were served a lime-based drink (not wine) which we found a bit off-putting. It is, after all, a "wine tasting tour" and there was no mention you might be served another type of beverage. However, our guide was very engaging and knowledgeable and a thoroughly enjoyable companion. We all recommend it -- but don't be afraid to ask where you'll be going, and ensure (if it matters) that wine is the only drink you will be served.
