My very favourite place to visit in the Summer. Beautiful ferry ride to the island. No cars over there, beautiful gardens, pubs, rides and a lovely beach with a breakwater keeping the water warm. It perfect for everybody.

We did an amazing boat trip around the island last summer. We were in Toronto again this March and they were beautiful viewed from the upper floors of the Delra hotel or from the harbor front.

Took the ferry to Ward's Island on a beautiful, sunny day in March. Be prepared for the winter season as there is nothing open or any activities to do, but if you have a nice day it's well worth it to visit! We walked around Ward's Island for about an hour and got some amazing pictures of the skyline and got enjoy the boardwalk and beach on the backside of the island. It's a great place to spend some time and to take a break from the busy city.

We walked along the waterfront all the way to the proper ferry which barely cost us anything in comparison to the private water taxis around. The journey over to the main (of three) islands only took 25 minutes maximum.

We walked around and found the fun fair which was full of screaming giggling children. We then found the kayak hire shed and hired a kayak for three hours. Sounds like a long time but there are three islands to paddle around. The view back looking over Toronto skyline was outstanding and made for the best landscape picture which is now hung in our living room.

The islands are a great change of scene from the city. When we are there (March) they were all but deserted. Lovely scenery, great wee buildings, lovely walks and some of the best views back to the city. Here was however nothing open. To be fair the signage indicated as much, but on the day we were there even the washrooms near the ferry were shut. (These are listed as supposed to be open on signage). The advantage of everything being closed was that gave a quirky and slightly weird deserted air to the place. As it is just a short ferry trip and only costs 7 or so dollars its well worth a trip....just take whatever you think you might need with you.
