I just spent three nights at the Strathcona with a colleague. We were in town for a conference. I had several issues altering my booking prior to my arrival but the hotel manager was helpful for the most part.
The location was great as it was a stone's throw from Union station and a short walk to the convention centre. We stayed in an executive Queen room. It was on the small side but the beds were very comfortable and the room was clean.
The bathroom did not have a functioning vent which was an inconvenience when sharing a room on a business trip. The room also did not come equipped with an in room safe or mini fridge which are usually standard in the hotels I have stayed at in the past.
The colleague I travelled with had a physical disability and the hotel staff did nothing to physically assist us with our luggage even when asked to do so. The hotel restaurant also closed earlier than scheduled on Saturday night along with room service which we found very disappointing. The hours of operation were not respected.
Overall I'd recommend this hotel to business travellers who are staying alone and simply need a place to sleep; although I was not at all impressed with customer service, which for me is an important part of the hotel experience.More
